Have you ever been in a situation that measures your capacity to stay in the dark for a long time? Or do you feel uneasy whenever the light goes out? Are you gasping for air when its dark and you wake up in the middle of the night? Share your experiences please...

I am not afraid of the dark at all. I like our bedroom to be totally dark at night. If I wake in the night to use the bathroom I never turn on a light. I love to just sit in the dark too.

I prefer a dim lighting for the night. It is better to be awakened in a situation wherein I can surmise the exact location of things inside the room and i can get up easily when the need arises. My youngest son though is just like you. He prefers total darkness to envelop the house, as soon as, when he is about to go to sleep.

Its good that you've overcome your fear. But isn't a tv for a nightlight a bit expensive?

I'm not afraid of dark. Perhaps I've been trained since I was young, coz my house always got power failure.
I like to sleep in totally dark environment, where I find it more relaxing and comfortable. It's really good for the eyes to get rest. I turn off all the lights before I go to sleep, and if I wake up in the middle of the night, I usually don't turn on the light, I'm able to see my way as there is street light. Sometimes, I like to turn off the light and just walk in the dark. It's a really good experience, relaxing and let your eyes really rest. I find peace in the dark. ^_^

Good for you, early training of being able to stay in the dark really matters. It makes you secure later in life to face darkness without any difficulty.

No, I am the kind who is afraid of the dark. But I hate it when the lights goes out all of a sudden. It doesn't feel good to be groping around in the house in the evening especially when, I am in the middle of doing something important. I keep some emergency purpose flashlights and lamps just incase the light goes out without warning. But since brown outs rarely happens in our place, it usually takes sometime to locate them and get them on the go. It is more difficult though when the brownouts happen when I am out somewhere. The streets are not as friendly as years ago. Thieves and robbers strike when darkness stays for hours.

I agree with you, we too have several guard lights around our house. I also keep a "glow in the dark" flashlight that comes in handy when there's a brown out.

I hate the dark. When I am alone at night and must turn the lights out to go to bed, I hop in bed quickly and pull the covers up over my face. I also always have a little night-light on in the living room so I can navigate without turning the light on. Often when I wake in the night to go to the bathroom, I do not turn on the light. Then, as I wash my hands, I imagine a creepy face looking at me from the mirror. I guess I just scare myself. Usually when I wake up in the middle of the night my eyes are gelled over so I can see pretty well.
Did you know that that is what night vision is? Your light-receptive cells "gel" over to assist you in seeing. When you see light for the first time, that is why it kind of hurts -- because it is burning off that layer of gel. It only takes moments to adjust to light (because it burns off quickly). But it takes about 15 minutes to adjust to darkness because your sensors must coagulate. A little bit of science for you.

I am not afraid of the dark. When I am placed in the dark for a long time, I just close my eyes and sleep.

I'm not afraid of the dark. Being in the dark doesn't bother me at all, in fact it is really comfortable for me. That's probably because I have been self concious for years and prefer being in dim lighting.

I am really afraid of the dark. At my age LOL.
That's because I tend to have a too vivid imagination and when I'm in the dark I'm imagining all sorts of monsters and stuff like that. It's quite interesting because the rational part of me *knows* there's absolutely nothing there, but I am afraid nevertheless. Especially if I have read or seen something recently that fed my imagination more scary ideas... :)

Same hir, i'm a light sleeper and i have a third eye that is seeing things that people can't see like ghost, fairies, and the like. Sometimes its not just imagination that makes us fear darkness, its something beyond that. do you think so?
