Don't people understand what wrong number means anymore?

I just got a phone call, and the lady asked for Brenda. I told the lady she must have the wrong number. She then says do you know how I can get ahold of her. I told her I didn't know a Brenda. Now if a Brenda had lived here I would have said she no longer lives here. I thought when you tell someone that they have a wrong number it means you don't know who they are calling for. I guess I must be living in the wrong century. What do you think?
