I was once stalked by someone I had met on the INTERNET and it changed the way I lived my life. He had cut all my phone lines had left finger prints on all my window sills. He tried twice to get in my door once even trying to chip away at my door casing. I had my phone number changed got a cell phone for 911 access in case he cut the lines again. but basically i became a prisoner in my home. When i would come on line he would find me I would change my yahoo account but somehow he would get my new one.he would leave disgusting things on my doorstep. I was a year of hell. But it did teach me to become very aware of my surroundings, the police would show me how to look at the world around me when i stepped out the door. how to prepare for the simplest of tasks. I thought I would take the time to share my story with you and share some hints.Because i see a lot of very careless behavior.
I see women walking while talking on their mobile phones, totally unaware of their surroundings. This is the perfect situation for an assailant to strike. Assailants attack because they feel superior and think women are easy targets.
Confidence can be projected through the way a woman walks and her awareness of her surroundings.
It is a predatory world out there and women need to take extra care in protecting themselves.
Here are some things that can help:BE PREPARED
Be psychologically alert
Remember to be alert to your surroundings
Program useful numbers into your phone, including 3
numbers of police stations near your home and workplace
While walking
Walk in well-lit areas and avoid dark roads or side streets
Do not take short cuts that lead away from main well-lit streets and avoid walking alone
Walk confidently and at a steady pace
Do not use your mobile phone or search through a purse because it draws your attention away from your surroundings
Keep your hands free at all times
Carrying bags and bundles prevent you from fighting back, so it is better to place them in a knapsack
Walk in the opposite direction of traffic to avoid being assaulted from behind
I hope this may help anyone who isn't wise to what might be out the wanting to hurt you. Please let me know what you think about this discussion and if you have been through anything similar

Yes, I do!!! I live in S Africa at the moment w one of the highest crime rates in the world and horrific rape statistics. I'm terrified to go out alone and only do so in the day in public areas, where I can easily be seen and heard. I pay extra to park in undercover parking where there are centre security guards and whenever possible try and make sure I have another adult w me so my child is protected. I do not open my gate until my car is turned and ready to exit, I only turn my outdoor passive alarms off just b4 I go near them, I check to see no one is following me home and take different routes home everyday. I make sure that I draw money from atms in well secured malls and ensure no one is watching me or following me. I make sure I turn my house and car alarms on and that our electric fence is on and working.

I can not explain how much your reply to my discussion moved me . I'm concerned about my safety and rightly so. But my city is 40,000 people we have a relatively low crime rate. But still i like to be cautious. But your life I ca not imagine. you must live in fear every second of your life. My heart and soul go out to you. I will keep you and your family and all the woman around you in my thoughts and prayers. I can't put in words or begin to understand what living your life must be like.
Thanks so much for sharing you life with us
Cheryl
