Please help me maximize my visit to New York

I'm off to New York in June and would like help form the members who live or have been in New York. I have a few questions I hope you guys can answer for me. 1. What to wear. I was planning on going to Disneyland but that plan's out now. I had my attire figured out for that one. But I have no idea what to wear on a hot New York day. I don't want to look like a tourist. 2. What to see. Aside from the Liberty, Ground Zero and Central Park, what other attractions are a must and can I pack into two days of sightseeing? 3. Where to shop. I want to exerience bargain shopping new York style. I've heard of the Basement. Is it really cheap? What else do you suggest? 4. Where to stay. Any suggestions on a hotel that's near the attractions and not so expensive at the same time? I hope you can help me. Thanks in advance.
