This is a poem I wrote about how I knocked the walls I had built around my heart down. I wrote it awhile back and posted it on a forum and to my pleasant surprise, many women came to me to say it helped them and they talked about what had happened to them, some for the first time ever.
Walls Around Her Heart
She built walls around her heart
To keep out all of the pain
She placed a roof above it
To keep out the driving rain
She went through life aimlessly
Hardened to the core
She would not let anyone in
They’d hurt her no more
The wrong that was done to her
Was hard to talk about
How could she ever live again
If she did not get it out
She was but just thirteen
When that stranger came along
And stole away her innocence
Took away her heart’s song
She thought she would remain safe
Not allowing anyone around
Then one day it happened
Those walls came tumbling down
It was not a person
That caused those walls to fall
It was in her written words
That helped her through it all
The words of her poetry
Became her saving grace
And to this day it helps her
Find that peaceful place
Today if you asked her
How you could make it through
She would smile and tell you
Just do what you must do
Find that special something
That is your very own
Take it and embrace it
And you’ll never feel alone
Try not to build any walls
So high around your heart
And then , I promise you
You’ll see the healing start
She built walls around her heart
To keep out all of the pain
But by God’s grace, those walls fell
And now she lives again

I love your poem, really inspiring... I'm touched because I'm trying to build my own wall now and I think I'm almost successful in doing so, but then after reading your poem, I realized you're right, it's not advisable to build walls around you... I shall need more time to think about this matter.. Thanks for sharing :D

I do not know the reason for you to build the wall, nor is it any of my business, just know, the wall can hurt you in the long run. I will keep you in my thoughts and if you believe in prayer, I will do that too, actually, I will do it anyways because I do believe in prayer.
In my case, I was raped and as long as I continued to hide away and keep those walls up, he won. I couldn't let that happen, so I started writing poems and the walls began to crumble. I now speak freely about what happened to me, as I have done for years, because I have nothing to be ashamed of and I can't be afraid of anyone hurting me. I have to live and i have to be happy.

I understand now why the hurt is so deep. My, lovesfreedom, you make me shed my tears. When I am told stories like this, I just can't help it. I don't know why but I hurt easily. Maybe it is because I have been through some pain, too. My case though is very much different from yours. It seems like I am sacrificing so much to see my children through life. Definitely, I don't want anything like that to happen to anybody's child.

Our children depend on us, without us, where would they be. I was and still am fiercely protective of my children.
I suspect you hurt easily because you have a tender heart and can feel the pain of others through your own.

This is a very lovely poem. No wonder it has touched the hearts of many. You remind me of the old poets who come by the name of Edgar Allan Poe, Percy B. Shelley, etc. They had very meaningful poems and I love them all. I believe that I'll keep a copy of this and I'll just say it is composed under your penname here in mylot. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
