Can anyone tell me how to insert (not attach) pictures/ images while compposing mail in Gmail, so that the recipient sees the picture in mail itself, & does not requires to download it.

I've never try this before, but one of the way I can think of is by remote-linking it.
Host your image somewhere, like in Photobucket.com. Then type in the image tag in your email body. That would embbed the image to your email body.
Use tag without the space. Do try. And hopefully it helps
