People, if you really have to be sarcastic & nasty when responding to someone's post, WHY BOTHER? Ok I admit I am in a bad mood. My son was sick, I worked all night, I am tired. BUT these people are so ANNOYING!! They answer your post only to degrade your spelling, grammar or the post itself!! If you don't like the topic, I have a very easy solution.... DON"T RESPOND TO IT!! There is no spelling check here at Mylot and some have said that Mylotters are too lazy to check for themselves. Even though over 75% of the Mylot population is fron a country where English is not the first language. I know that sometimes it may be difficult to understand what someone is trying to say, then skip the post. Who died and made these people the Mylot Forum Grammar/Spelling/Intersting Topic Police? I have browsed through some of their responses while looking for posts to reply to, and my goodness what nastiness dwells inside. I am a pretty easy going person, and I really don't like to be a whiner, but I had to vent... these people make Mylot so frustrating sometimes, you just want to log off for days. We all have lives, we all do things outside of Mylot. Some of the people here are here because this is a form of income for them. Don't put them down just because it's not for you. Oh and just because you've been here longer, doesn't make you better!! Ok, I think I'm done ranting now. What do you guys feel about these nasty people haunting Mylotters every mistake?

I hope your son will be ok and you may have a rest if you are tired. No matter where we are , there are always some people who like to pinpoint to other people for their small mistakes they made, we always have to deal with these people,I do not care about how other people think on me, I can just laugh it off if someone is criticizing me. I always have spelling mistakes but I think it is not a problem as long as you can understand what I say, you can ask again if oyu are not clear about something. We have to learn how to be tolerate to the others. Anyway, take care of yourself.

that's fine to want to help, it's totally another thing when you make them feel horrible enough to want to quit trying all together.

Whoa, monkey (LOL!!!) you sure are boiling hot in here. I know...I understand your ranting. Nobody likes to see someone snaking around our threads. I've been here long enough to know that these nasty users are nothing but to mess the beauty of our threads. I wouldn't be surprise to see more users like that. I don't understand why they can't be more compassionate about others. Broken English, typos, and wrong grammars are not even against mylot rules. Just report them if it will make you feel better. I did that almost everyday. :/

Honey, I agree with you, there are some annoying people here. But they need to remember that mylot is multicultural. As you said some here are just learning English. I have in a nice way helped a mylotter rephrase a sentence for meaning and received a thank you in return. I have humorously (or so I thought) answered a venting type discussion and got attacked for being rude! It's all in the personality or "mood" (as you say)of the person. I try to watch myself now and not put my type of sarcastic humor into the mix as it just is not appreciated on mylot. I am glad you vented here and started this discussion. I hope mylot stays with it's stance that all are welcome here, even those with poor spelling/grammar/english. I have enjoyed learning about other cultures here on mylot as I am sure you have too. I hope your son feels better soon and you are able to get some sleep, take care now, ya here!

Thanks for your honest reply. I do know people can be funny or even sarcastic at times. Heck I am a VERY sarcastic person with friends. There is one thing to do it in jest and quite another how some of these people answer every discussion with "you know you spell that this way and use this word instead of that, or you are ignorant." The one that really got me ticked was someone calling soemone else ignorant for using the word "dat" instead of "that" The person was from another country and maybe just maybe "that" sounds A LOT like "dat" and therefore was written that way. People with zero tolerance for anyone outside of their expectations just tick me off !! I hope Mylot stays the same for all to enjoy as well !! Thanks for your concern for my son, he's doing a lot better now !!

dont the mylot staff have a moderator in here? maybe something should be done about that, although im still a beginner, i think what you are whining is valid and i've been with other forum such as this, members who violate the terms of use are automatically banned. i hope it can be done also here in mylot. first three violations, warnings should be given and then off to the ignore box.

I think so too. This is a site for many and in the Mylot rules it says, no stalking, no member bashing, etc. And it happens way too often for my tastes !!

Here here misheleen!! I am a bit sick of some of these people too and sometimes avoid starting discussion for fear of what some will answer to it. If you have something to say be constructive or don't say it at all.....

I think it's important to have a standard to some degree. I mean, if posts aren't even readable, how are we going to respond? Plus, like you said a lot of people are from other countries. Many are trying to improve their English. How can they improve without a bit of criticism? That said, my posts are often criticized. I think it's needed though. A few years ago someone told me that "definately" is supposed to be "definitely" and I definitely haven't mispelled it since. :)

True. Sometimes it's hard to read people online though. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt if possible and try to assume they weren't being rude. Unless it's really just unmistakeable.

Like I have said before, to some degree is fine. Trying to help someone is fine. Being rude and arrogant about it, is not fine.

I think that you are right! I have met a number of people that are from India and there english is a second language. I just replied to a person that I chat with often about him being here to further his skills n the language and grammer. Though some people are rude about the way some people spell or try to word something. I being eight-teen, correct all my thirteen year old sisters mistakes when she Instant messages me but that is because she was a problem child and is behind in her spelling and when she makes a mistake she either corrects it herself if she knows how or I'll make * then type the word and she says oh ok thanks. I don't do it out of meanness I do it so that she will learn. But on here people are trying to learn without someone being rude to them about it. You can tell someone nicely that they have something wrong without being mean about it.

Thank you, my point exactly. You an be helpful without being rude. I know I make typos quite often. I am pretty good at spelling myself, but type too fast for my own good sometimes. I hate to see someone bashing someone else, then later that same person making mistakes themselves. I always say, if you're not perfect yourself, how can you look down on others?

I understand and share your frustration. I see posts with bad spelling or poor English, but if I can understand what they're trying to say and I think I can add something to the discussions, then I will. Whats the point in being nasty and pointing out other people's shortcomings, because I can guarantee those who shout out about this have shortcomings too. They're far from perfect themselves! They do this to make themselves feel better. I think that those who are going around posts doing this are pathetic to be honest.

Thank you, pathetic is the absolute right word to describe these type of people. I have in the past helped someone by telling them the correct spelling, but never have I been rude or nasty about it.

Look I am so bad with spelling and grammar I should be the Queen of errors. Don't let the nasty people get you down. They just think they know it all. That is because they sit in a dark room looking for something to complain about. You on the other hand have a life!

What's funny is if you respond to these people, and many have, they tell that person to get a life, they are only expressing their own opinion. LOL I'm better now (a little) I slept for 4 hours woo hoo.

Oh dear, you are pretty exhausted aren't you? I'm sorry about your son, I wish he'll be well soon. Anyway, I can feel for you. Yup, there are just people here that can't stop the insults. I mean, I'm no saint, I admit there are times that I'll comment to myself, "Oh God, I can't understand what he's talking about!" But I rather keep that to myself, I would never, ever in any way discourage a mylotter to post again, we're not here to cause other pain and deplete their self-confidence. So, what I do is just ignore some of the things I really can't understand, but there are times I would ask what they mean by their reply (because I always go back to my own discussions and comment to others' responses). I'm disppointed with such kind of mylotters who finds joy in the miseries of others, we are not perfect, nobody is, we all commit mistakes.... Hush dear, be calm now :D

LOL.. thanks for your concern, my son is much better and I did get some sleep, so I am much better :P I understand that people comment to themselves, sometimes I reply to people that have responded to me and ask what they mean or I just skip it, if I don't want to injure said person. I think you are doing the right thing, and I appreciate people like you... :)

Hey Mishleen Hope your little one is fine by now. I know I am little too late to reply but nevertheless. I know what you mean and I find it pretty silly to point out someone's mistakes for grammar and spell check. I for instance can not for my life type without looking at my keyboard so I make some spelling mistakes I do re-read my answers and then submit but somehow some mistakes just escape my eye and well I can not undo anything once it is gone up on board, yahoo answers allows this but mylot does not so I will just have to live with my spelling mistakes. My thinking is we all make mistakes and if I can understand what the other person intend's to say it is fair enough for me.but if I don't understand I just let it be it is pretty much stupid for me to sit and point out mistakes if it was a mistake in first place I am sure the person himself/herself already know this and mentally kicking themselves and if they did not know it then they are trying to grasp the language so in that case I will be a bigger fool to tell someone who is making the effort to learn a language people have to understand that maybe English is spoken worldwide but it is not the first most spoken language it is a second language to most of the people in the world and my thinking is what an effort a person is making to learn a language even if it is as popular as English. I know many people whose first language is english who do not make an effort to learn another language all their lives and then they criticise people who do not know their language I think it is hilarious for people to take it for granted that the whole world speaks English, no it does for majority of the people English is a mere second language! I feel lucky I have learnt 3 languages gives me 3 chances of expressing the same thoughts in 3 different ways I have also found out that there are some topics I can express myself better when I speak in my native tongue and some topics better when I do it in English. It is a great feeling to think and express oneself in a different language. We must appreciate these people for their efforts and not ridicule them for their failings! Peace :)

Some people just don't get the idea that mylot is indeed a multicultural world, and as such, is open to any and all kinds of backgrounds, level of education, language ability, writing skills, or even morality. While it is very easy to just ignore discussions one doesn't like, there are people who like to flame things up and fish for responses. How's your son now? I hope he is ok and has recovered. Having a sick child is a lot of stress for a parent. I remember when my eldest was about a year old, I would cry when she was ill, as if I wanted to be the one ill and not her.

thank you sooo much, he is doing much better now !! I know how you feel, wanting to be ill instead. My husband always says he wishes he could take all our illness on himself. You must be a terrific father. I have had discussions inwhich I disagree with a poster, but I always see what they have to say and never bash them for it. Everyone has their own opinion & experience in life.
