Why do we light a lamp or candle before praying?

Have always wondered about it. Would like to know the answers from my fellow mylotters. I searched a lot and found the answers but am looking for some more.

i think it is because to feel the solemnity of the time while we are praying. a candlelight is very serene, shows us the way and very solemn and calm to look at.

I say my prayers with lighted candles. It is the only way for me, to be with God, in saying thank you to him.

I don't light a lamp or a candle when I'm praying... At night, I pray in complete darkness.

So you can see what you are doing? No, it represents the light of life or something like that isn't it? Symbolic?

The lighting of a candle or lamp helps infuse the power of prayer, it seems to me that it helps make things better. I light a candle because I feel more connected to my prayers that way, and spiritually connected. It keeps one calm during prayer, it does for me.
