Wall Clocks And Time

I usually keep only one wall clock going at home. All the others are table type ones. These are more convenient to keep in the bedrooms as they have a built in alarm system to wake one up at the critical hours of the early morning. There are some of us though who prefer to hang more than one wall clock in our homes. Once, when I visited a friend, I noticed that she had one at the dining room in addition to the one she has at the receiving room. When she noticed that I was getting anxious to go home, she told me that it has been set 30 minutes in advance. The one which tells the real time is the one at the receiving room. Until now, I cannot understand why her clocks do not tell the same right time. Now, I wonder if there are some of us here who keep lots of wall clocks going at home, running at different time. What are your thoughts on this? Do share.

Hello Kabayan, I am a keeper of clocks but not wall clocks as I am not allowed to put anything on the wall in my apartment. In my last apartment I kept a clock in the bathroom, one in the kitchen/living room right on top of the tv, and another one in my bedroom. The one in the bathroom was 10 minutes faster than the rest because I wanted to think that I only got thirty minutes left instead of forty so I would rush. I know it sounds crazy knowing that I'm aware of it anyway. But sometimes it does the trick you know? Well, I don't do that anymore now. Here in my new place in the dormitory I have one table clock that is set to London time and one digiclock set to local time. I do it because I always forget what time it is on the other side of the world.

i can understand now why there is a need for some to set their clocks in advance of how it is with the rest. but, as for keeping the london time, that is very new to me.

We have clocks everywhere in the house. In every room, yes, not to mention the clocks on the mobile phone. Whoever "owns" the clock decides how fast or slow it goes. Normally they are all set to the correct, actual time though.

At home where my parents stay we have a wallclock in every room including the kitchen and the bathroom! i stay alone in a different city and have a small table clock on my shelf which I dont even see! I use my cellphone and my watch to check the time. Or if I'm on the comp, I just look at it on the bottom right.

I am amazed at the wall clock in the bathroom and a wall clock on the shelf which cannot be seen. I can't imagine but think that this way I will have the exact knowledge as to how much time I spend taking the shower. My kids say that I spend more than a half hour even if I speed up. But the clock on the shelf...hmmmmm...that's for decorative purposes, yes it is.

We also just have one wall clock out in the living room, and then the rest are tabletop clocks. I never really understand why some people set all their clocks differently like that. lol We try to have our clocks all on the same exact time as much as possible so that nobody gets confused.

yes, do not understand them for doing that. and when we ask why this is so, we shall surely be in for a surprise from the answers that we will get.

As for me, I am having a wall clock in most of the rooms in my home. It is some kind of need for me. I look at the time whenever I move around the household.

it must feel like having the security of knowing the right time wherever you maybe inside the house. that is truly very understandable.

We had two wall clock at home. One in the living room and the other at the stairway. The one in the stairway is advance by 15 minutes and the one in the living room is exactly the same time in the office.sometimes it got my wife confused because sher time in the hospital is not the same with out time in the office.Which sometimes she will change it without telling me.Then I have to change it again. All I can say is that our time is always varying.lol

we have 3 wall clocks one each in the living room , bedroom and kitchen and a small table clock in my study room. i always set the same time in all these clocks in line with IST time shown on national news channel. i guess people set time in advance so that by following advanced clocks they could be well in time.

Yes, I can see that there are some who does it so as not to be late for work. It's better to report ahead of time than be late.

some people prefer different time settings, specially when there's more than 1 person looking at the clock. they tend to set the time on the clock, nearest the entrance/exit doors, in advance. they think setting it that way helps them avoid getting late for school/work. pretty much the same reason why some people have different time settings with their cellphones and home clocks. c",)

Okay, I get your point about having the clock set ahead of the usual time, repzkoopz.

wallclock - wall clocks and time
we have wall clocks hanged in every room in our house and all of them are synchronized to one standard time. these wall clocks are just gifts we received from friends and some were purchased from department stores at very cheap prices. all of which are run by dry cells small batteries. i have only one desktop clock with alarm which i personally use in my room at my bedside. actually, i just like to see different colors and types of wall clocks hanged in all four corners of the house.

I can see that you have a collection of wall clocks at home. The advantage about wall clocks is the fact that they are very easy to locate. It is good that you have made sure that they are all synchronized at standard time.

I keep one wall clock in my kitchen and it is set to the actual time. However, we have two clocks in our bedroom. One has the actual time (for me) and the other is set about ten minutes faster (for my husband). For the life of me I cannot figure out why he does this, but I guess he feels that it keeps him from slowing down in the morning so he won't be late for the day ahead. Frankly, it makes me anxious unless the clock says the real time.

Yes, it is difficult if the clock is not set at the real time. Our tendency is to believe that what we see is the real one.

Oh, that is a very good explanation. That means she told me that it isn't the real time because, she wanted me to stay around longer. In other words, I am not a nuisance visitor. I hope that you are right, vishal, it feels good to be thinking this way.
