Well, I think running requires more effort so I suppose this is the best way to lose weight.
But I personally prefer biking because I'm lazy like that. When i'm riding my bike, I can feel the burn in my thighs. I think it's quite a good exercise, especially if you do it for a long time with a lot of effort, especally going up hills! Oufff, that's tiresome for me haha.
I suggest you try out interval training. Apparently doing this is better than doing 45 minutes of jogging.
An example of this type of training is by sprinting as fast as you can for 30 seconds and then stop and have few seconds to catch your breath and then do it again. Research on it.

Running causes impact to the joints that may cause you trouble down the road. I don't know that I would say biking is a better overall exercise than running, but it is a healthier habbit to develop. Myself, I see quicker results with running, but if having a little excess weight is a concern you gotta figure that all the excess weight is causing that much more impact on the joints.
