me, eversince, i dont want to be a member of that group because i dont like the way they treated the new members, like paddling the legs that sometimes, it can lead to death by a member..are they really true friends to their members? are there benefits that you can get from that group? are you willing that your kids will go to that group? thanks for sharing..

Everybody has right to join any society and group they feel like. What l like might not be what another persons likes. life is all about choice, whether good or bad, people will make a choice. Most times, we makes choices that affect our future, and regret it later.
As an individual l wont join a group that will inflict injury on me, niether would l allowed my children to do so.
However, l dont frown at people who are members, they have their reasons for being there, whether bad or good reason, is their choice and l respect it.
cheers.

I am not a member of a fraternity. Joining never even opccured to me. Why? Maybe because it's the environment. I don't know what the environmen is in other countries but here in the Philippines, it is filled violence. Fraternities here also recruite people with ages from 13 to 17. it is kinda immature for me. I believe tha a fraternities performance would matter based on their members. Since there are so many members in fraternities in the Philippines who are immature, useless, dumb, violence oriented and insecure, then fraternities here are performing badly. fraternities also demand so much of one's time. then here comes the worst, they have so much written in their by - laws, creed, whatever they call That about responsibility, change, helping others, and all those good things but only a few or none of them are met.

No i am not. At my college they haze pretty bad and have a really pledging process-you basically have to do whatever they say 24 hours a day, you cant go anywhere along, you have stupid unpleasant things they make you do every day and they are VERY mean and unkind to you. I don't understand how someone who treats you like crap for 6 weeks can suddenly be your "friend" over one night when you cross over. I don't need to buy my friends either, it costs a lot of money here to be in one. I can make friends on my own without paying money, without being abused, and degraded, and without conforming to the rules that THEY set forth. And all they do around here is drink constantly...theres more to my life than getting drunk all the time. My personality is too individualistic to be in one, although I think for some people they have personalities that LIKE that type of structure, so I can see why some people join up.

i don't have kids yet. but as for me, i am not a member of any sorority nor had been a member of it before. i never even thought of thinking of joining one.
i don't want to hurt myself and most of all, i don't want others to hurt me.
i have lots of friends and i have lots of people who know me and love me already. they don't need to hurt me in anyway just to accept me in their lives. we even take care of each other. so, i don't think i need such an environment for me to feel safe and to have friends.

Nope, I am not a member of either. I would like to, but I'm afraid i wouldn't meet up to their standards, plus i think i'm to old. i'd like my kids to be in on eif they get a chance.

No I am not a member of fraternity/sorority, I have never heard of this particular site and it sounds like I was very lucky that I never was due to what you have said here about how they treat their members. So thank you for telling your friends here what this particular site is like.

its not a site. Frats and sororities are "greek" and are like social organizations/service clubs on college campuses...at least thats what they were originally.

I do not belong to any sorority groups but my brother, who's already 27, has been in his fraternity eversince he was still 16.
I remember the time when he was still new to this group. My Mom saw his marks on his legs. She really got mad about it that she turned out crying. My Mom wasn't open minded about that. So it was my Dad who talked to him. He asked him why he joined that. And he wants my brother to promise to him that whatever riots that will come their way between other fraternity groups, he will not join them because it's too risky and Dad doesn't want him to get caught and put into jail for whatever reason.
It took a long time for Mom to accept him but eventually everyone of us learned to accept the group. At this moment, he had already proved to us that he can still be a better person despite of joining fraternities.
He belongs to Alpha Phi Omega and they had a lot of projects for the youths like sponsoring concerts to be able to generate funds.
That was then I realize fraternities and sororities are not bad as long as you would use it wisely and with good vision-mission too. :)

Yes, I agree with you my friend. In the first place why they do harmful ways to their new members wherein fact the main objective of a fraternity/sorority is to have an extended brotherhood/sisterhood for belongingness.
