DDR as exercise

Does anyone else use DDR just as a way to work out? I started playing it for fun, but then I discovered the calorie counter. It's supposed to be pretty accurate, and it's a good way to work out. My favorite game to play is Supernova. It does get a little bit boring doing it every day, though!

I used it as a workout back in 06.
I lost ALOT of weight.
I recently got back into it using stepmania but JUST TODAY my dnce mat broke.
I had it for two year and it upsets me because the dance mt itself reminds me of alot of good times.
it was used during alot of parties, such fond memories I have.
I may just keep it for that reason.
problem is now I don't have anything to workout with.
maybe i'll just set it to no fail and step on the arrows as if it was working.

I've not found it to get boring. I still love it. I compete with myself to try and get a higher score every time I play a song.

I absolutely love DDR for exercise. I actually lost over 30 lbs with it, and when you play on expert, you can get a lot more of a work out in less time than you would even running or sprinting.
It's a great workout with minimal pain and maximum fun. I'm sure to be playing DDR well into my old ages, regardless of other healthy things I decided to do.
There's nothing wrong with losing weight, getting a healthy heart, and stronger legs, AND having fun at the same time. Give it a chance, if you haven't already. It's really not something you'd want to miss out on in this life.

i love to play this game even though i'm not very good at it. i do seem to do better in the exercise mode since it doesn't have as many harder steps in it. now that i'm trying to exercise and tone up for FL next month, i'm going to make that my cardio workout. then i can use my other stuff for toning.

yes this is true. It's totally an exercise. both body and mind. Imagine you stomp so many times while looking down so many arrows that you could execute well. When I first get into DDR. I played it in playstation 1 with a dance pod and my Mom said "Is that a aerobic machine or what?". definitely yes Mom, I said.

When I first started playing, it was for the purpose of losing weight. At the time I weighed 230 pounds. In a couple of months, I was down to 190. In 4 months, I was down to 176. I kept playing and playing. The one thing that kept me interested was the fact that I didn't play the home versions. At the time I started, there was only the first version on playstation in Japan. So I was at the arcade as much as I could be and met many friends that played. We would play harder and harder levels and also added some freestyling to it on the easier levels. Freestyling is trying to make it look like you're actually dancing while continuing to hit all the arrows. Alot of us got into freestyling so we started to watch dance videos and started to make routines for the game. We even started on partner routines and doubles routines. Having friends that play around you makes it so much more fun and interesting. You cheer each other on when you pass hard songs and console each other when you fail. I've been playing since 1999, and I do still play. I like to find ways that make it interesting to play.

I used to have DDR for the original PlayStation and it was a very vital part of my workout daily. It was when I was in college and there wasn't always time for me to get out to the gym where I was a member because I had to study... so I used to use a combination of DDR and jogging to get my workout in. I don't really pay attention to the calorie burner too much, but it is nice to have just in case.

I have never tried DDR before, but I've been really wanting to try it lately to exercise. I keep hearing that it's a really good for working out, and it sounds like fun. I'm afraid it's probably expensive though, so I guess I'll have to start shopping around for it!
