How long do you usually wait before picking the best response? I would hate to pick one and then have someone else join the discussion and they have a better response then the one that I picked. I also don't won't to wait too long. I am new at this. Help!

I usually wait around 24 hours. Even though I don't get a huge responses to my discussions, but you never know who is going to answer and what they may have to cntribute.

go ahead and award BRs if you think a response has satisfied the answer that you were looking for. it doesn't matter if it takes minutes, hours, days or weeks before you give the BR. as long as you feel comfortable doing it.
if i receive a lot of responses in my discussion like 50-100, i'd wait a few days to a week or until i've read all the responses. coz sometimes it's difficult to choose when you receive several quality responses from mylot users.
if i receive between 20-30 responses, it will probably take me 2-3 days. if the responses are less than 10, that's 1-2 days.
it sometimes takes me a long time to award BRs because i try to add comments also to their responses as well as provide ratings too. when the responder is someone i don't know and his response interest me, i visit the profile and look at the discussions he started. then when i got absorbed at looking at profiles and answering other discussions, sometimes i totally forgot to award the BR. -lol-
some users will wait until the responses die down... that means no activity for at least 3 days or no additinal responses. then they award the BR.
this is up to you, whatever fits your criteria of a best response. if you entertain the thought that there might be a better response than the one that you were about to pick as the best response... and you hate to have picked one already then a better response came along... my advise is to wait awhile since you are not yet absolutely sure.
give the BR once your mind is decided. nobody is rushing you to give away the BRs so... there's no hurry. :)

I wait until i receive an answer that i like, meaningful and relevant to the subject, i have no time limit for it.
When i see that the discussions got stuck and have no more answers, only then i chose the "BR" from what i've received until then.
Unfortunate situations appear with discussions that receive no answers at all...
