Marriage can sometimes be compulsory and sometimes not. Marriage becomes compulsory in situation like when a guy decides to marry a girl just because she got pregnant. I have known cases like their parents both want them to get married just because they want to. In these cases, marriage becomes compulsory. In life, it depends on the culture. In a catholic world, people who are living together and were not married becomes a sin for other who sees them. However, in a liberated country sometimes marriage is not an option or not compulsory.
