I think that the the government as well as schools have the responsibility of promoting awareness among young people about deviant behavior. The Virginia Tech gunman like the Columbine shooters showed signs of psychological instability long before their tragic ends. Their parents, teachers, and peers would have noticed something odd in their behaviors that should have caused concern. Hopefully, after several deadly incidents, our society would be more vigilant in reporting and following up similar cases.

This is just so sad. A total waste of human life. I think society is quickly becomeing a society that does not take responsiblity for its choices. Everyone is blaming someone or something else and then there is moral values. When we are not taking responsibility for our own actions, we loose our moral values. They have already taken God out of the schools and now we are taking him out of our life. Part of having moral values is taking responsiblity for our own actions and repenting and then trying to do better but my not taking responsiblity for our own actions we are loosing our own moral values without a thought.
Also I think that mental health should be talked about more in a loving enviroment. Our society has put a stigma on mental health that needs to be rethought. Mental health is as important as physical health. It is not "crazy" as once labeled. It is not a terrible thing to seak help. It is a good thing to seek help and their are medications to help with depression and anxiety today. We just need to get the word out there more.
Lonnie this was a great question and I enjoyed sharing my opinion with you. I hope you will also share your opinion with me.

What has god got to do with it. If I am not mistaken this nut job was doing it because of something to do with Jesus Christ. If there was no religion maybe nut jobs wouldn't do things like this in the name of Christianity. No? Furthermore why do we have to have god in our lives to be moral? I think people can have morals with or without god. No offense, just my opinion.

Perhaps make one go thru a metal detector at all the doors to campuses. I can't believe that after the first 2 shootings at VA. Tech that they did not bring in the dogs to find the culprit! By doing so would of at least prevented the next 31 deaths. So so sad.

we can start at our society by not discriminating people on any bases like cast, creed, race, color, origin etc. discrimination of people lead to the incidents like VIRGINIA TECH. we should let all the people from any origin to adapt to the new environment by helping them.
America is one those country where the rate of discrimination on color and origin is higher than other country.the people in U.S.A should let people to come into their societies.
STOP DISCRIMINATION is the only thing we can do.
