I am an Iranian ( persian)! You ask for the reason Iranians are upset about the 300! I would like to discuss it with you and others if you like! Apart from the situation of my motherland during these days which is not a very good reason to judge a civilization, we Iranians have a prejudice about our civilization ( still it is not a good reason to say that we are in good conditions at the moment) There was a time when CYRUS the Great was the emperor of the world but he was such benevolent that made the pasargad( takhte jamshid) without making slaves to do that but by paying everyone working in there! To me he was great manager in the ancient times , and in that time such democratic behaviour had been amazing!( refer to www.iranchamber.com/cyrus/curus_charter.php for his charter of human rights)
300 injured the Iranian feelings by demonstrating Iranians like beasts! What else do u expect? Anyway I wasn't angry with them, because If you dont know anything about my culture , that is my own fault not others!

Well, since it's a "comic" they depicted everything "bad" this way not just the persians. Efialtes the effores etc.

Well they tried to mark it as propaganda to prepare the masses for an usa attack. A bit exxagerated in my eyes.

I think 300 was quiet insulting. Iranians aren't barbarians, they aren't 9 foot giants with piercings all over their bodies, and they kicked Spartan a*s irl. Ok if you dont wanna make a historically valuable movie at least dont insult them throughout the movi the way Leonidas does. He talks to Persians like dirt, and Persians are real people that exist atm, while Spartans don't (well not the sparta in the movie). Sometimes its nice to be entertaining without pissing off a race, now I dont wanna get into politics, but dont u feel its a bit convenient that this anti-persian (anti-iranian) movie comes out at a time like this? a time where america isn't at the best terms with Iran? If you try and see it from the Iranians point of view you might see why they find it insulting and propagandist. And btw im not Iranian and I see this, so dont just say im sticking up for my country.

hello m8. I wanna say these: First of all persians didn't kicked spartan a*s in irl. They got kicked at plateae. Irl thermopiles was just a way to hold the persians until the greeks get organized. Well leonidas talks not really that dirty about the persians, at least not as dirty as they talked back in that time about the persians. Persians were considered a pain in the b*t at that time, as barbarians which liked to play god, remember that not persia, like many ppl believe, was a "superpower" but the greeks were at that time. I agree with you that persians were real ppl and not some "ninja's" like the film show the immortals. Well the mood at that time were a bit anti persian, therefor the quotes from than sound anti persian. Well however i don't thing that film can represent the history, it's just a comic film and in my eys it shouldn't be considered as insulting or anything else against persia cause it's not americas nor greece's opinion about iran it's just a film. Hollywood.

hm i think still they have right to be so, because what we see in the movie maybe true in that time not all happen, so we must respect iran right to upset to this movie..

I find it ironic Iran regards this movie as Western propaganda or even as an insult when they themselves broadcast on state run television anti western propaganda at times.
300 is a real battle in a real place and time. Persians were at the time the largest nation and greatest military prior to Alexander the Great. What makes 300 so significant is that so few despite the odds, withstood hundreds of thousands for 2-3 days to help the Greek forces eveacuate Sparta and rally themselves.
I don't see why Iran would be upset. It is after all a comic adaptation, and some aspects of history would be exaggerated...

300 is an absolutely terrific movie. the attitude, the valour the spartans display send a chill down my spine. so much to keep their honour. they challenged and even demured a person who projected himself as god. i think they were bogged down by the wrong priests who just had no respect for these warriors. my personal favorite line in the movie when the king says : SPARTANS NEVER RETREAT!!!!!!!!!!. the greatest sequence when the king as a young lad fights the beast and also , when he kicks the intruder into the well..probably the portrayal of the PERSIANS made them angry..
