Camping - Like it or hate it?

I'm going camping again this weekend and wondered how many of you liked to go camping too. I have to say that I usually like to go camping, if the weather is nice. It's always fun to get out of town and enjoy nature, even if it's only for the weekend. Of course, I do have to pack everything we might need, including a "portable" kitchen sink. Don't tell hubby though! He thinks that's the only thing I haven't packed yet. :) So how do you feel about camping? Like it, Hate it? Why do you feel that way?

Camping can really clear your mind and renew your spirit, can't it? What is camping like in your country?

I like to go camping, too, xleporiter. We go out camping to be refreshed and renewed. There is a tendency for boredom to set in if we will not take our needed breaks. To be going camping is a good break to be having once in a while.

Hi, paidreader Sorry it's been a while since I've gotten to your discussions, but anyway. I definitely enjoy camping but prefer to do it where I can fish. No fishing no camping for me. My wife on the other hand is a dirtophobe ( LOL ) and couldn't be less interested. She might get the bottom of her shoe dirty. LOL. But anyway I try to get the kids out at least twice a year. It is certainly nice to get back to nature so to speak.

A new fishing spot - This is a new fishing spot for us. We found it when we stayed in Prot Aransas recently. I hope the camping and the fishing are good next time. :)
LOL, I think a few of my nieces are dirtophobes too. Hubby prefers camping when fishing is involved, but I do drag him with me for camping when we go tubing down the Guadalupe or Comal rivers, lol. I'm looking into the camping facilities around this fishing spot we found recently. I think the dolphins kept us from catching any fish that day though. :)

If given the chance to go camping, I would definitely go camping. I'm too busy to go camping now but I would really want to spare sometime to go and explore nature with my friends. I prefer camping in mountains because I also love hiking. It would be a great adventure if ever I go camping with my friends.

i hate camping. i dont like insects and i think that when you go camping, you'll be out in the woods with insects, mosquitoes, snakes, etc. i dont really like the outdoors. i prefer to stay at home, cuddled up inside my comforter.

I have to agree! It's nice to get away from the noises of the city and enjoy the noises made by nature instead. :)

I agree about it being relaxing, but nature has it's own noises so it's not always quiet where we go camping, lol. This weekend we were provided with the amusing and throaty sound of a big bullfrog who might have been trying to find a mate or just croaking to the other frogs. The sound of his voice carried a little over the water but we never actually spotted him, though he sounded very close & very big, lol. :)

I have never been camping. Mosquitoes love me and I hate them. I am allergic to them actually. I hate insects and bad weather and sleeping on the ground can't be good for my fibromyalgia. But my kids were always whining about how EVERYBODY goes camping and we never go. So I bought a tent and they sleep in the backyard when the weather is nice. Last year my 14yo's friend invited her to go camping with her and her family. My daughter went. For the most part she had a good time but she said she never wants to go again. LOL! They stayed at a camp site and the washrooms were disgusting. And they got wet. And, and, and.... no camping for this family! However, I don't think I would mind a lovely cabin with a view either in the mountains or by the beach.

Beach View from our condo - This was a pic I took on our anniversary trip. It was the view of the beach from the balcony of the condo we rented.
LOL, yes, those are some of the less than attractive features of camping. As hubby & I get older, we have made camping a little better with our air mattress, but you're right about the bathroom situations you can encounter, lol. Getting a room with the view can be just as much fun though less work. That's what we did for our anniversary at the beginning of this month. I've attached a pic of the view we had of the beach from our balcony. :)

Camping - It's fun when you're young
I have mixed feelings about camping now. I used to enjoy camping trips but as I have got older it seems to be more of a chore to get everything packed up, then pitched up on site. Sleeping in a sleeping bag on a mat on the ground hurts my back too. I am not as agile as I used to be but can still enjoy the occasional weekend away in the tent.

LOL, sleeping in a tent doesn't necessarily mean you have to sleep on the ground. Hubby & I have been going long enough to have purchased an inflatable bed for ours. He has back problems too and it's hard for him to get up off the ground sometimes when the weather is bad, so we invested in 2 inflatable beds. One is 18" high & the other is 24". They're stronger than an air mattress but I still bring some 1" thick foam padding to put under it. You never know when you'll miss seeing a stick when you're putting your tent up, lol. They serve well as extra "guest" beds when we have overnight company too. :)

I love the outdoors...absolutely love hiking and being out in nature...I used to camp all the time and enjoyed it thoroughly...Now fast forward to today...I still love to hike..and drink in the natural beauty of the mountains, hills, etc...BUT...I hate the sleeping on the ground in a bag...blechhhh...so how do I get my nature fixes?...I find lodges not too far from the areas I want to hike in and book reservations there for the weekend or mid week...then I have the best of both worlds..less packing ( they supply cooking and serving pieces in the ones with kitchenettes) so you just have to bring groceries and clothing ...in the ones that are more "hotelish" ( is that a word?) you dine in their dining rooms..rise early have a fab breakfast, go out hiking, biking and whatever all day..and return to a cushy bed and shower at night and a great dinner /dessert by the fireplace...Okay it's pampered camping...but it's my kind of camping and I get to enjoy the best of both worlds!!!

LOL, pampered camping is good too. For our recent anniversary, we rented a condo on the beach, so it was great to leave a lot of stuff at home. Especially since we did a lot of traveling thru that week. I just packed some of the foods I knew I wouldn't mind cooking after long days of playing on the beach. :) For tent camping though, we like our air mattress so it can still be cushy, lol. :)

Love it! Love it! Love it! There's nothing more relaxing and not a better way to regroup, as far as I'm concerned. There is nothing like breakfast made on a campfire!

LOL, I tend to burn everything except marshmallows on a campfire so I prefer to cook breakfast on a coleman stove when I go camping now. :)

I've never actually slept in a tent before. We always had a 5th wheel or a camper trailer that we took with us camping. I think I would like tent camping and have been tryng to plan a weekend to go with my brother and his fiance but hasn't quite worked out yet!!

When I was little, we'd go in one of those popup campers. They were pretty nice since you had the beds, cabinets, mini fridge, sinks and countertops. Camping in a tent is a little different because you tend to pack more unless you're roughing it. While that kind of trip can be fun at times too, I prefer to be prepared & usually wind up bring more than is actually needed, lol. :)

I have only ever been camping once. It was for two weeks and for two weeks it rained and within a few hours of getting there i was bored. Plus i got food poisoning from some under cooked sausages and was sick at about half five in the morning so all in all - I HATE CAMPING!

Ouch! If that was my only camping experience, I wouldn't care for it either. I would definately recommend shorter trips with better weather if you should ever decide to try it again though. :)

I love camping. We have a travel trailer so we dont have to pack much just clothes and food usually. We went last weekend, first trip of the year. I forgot the sheets for the beds and coffee for my husband, but we survived and had a great time.

We tried last weekend too, but bad weather had knocked down a tree & blocked our path so we had to work before we could play, lol. We finished up clearing the tree this weekend, so it'll be alot easier to get there for future visits. :D One of the reasons I pack so much is so that I'm prepared for anything that might happen on our various trips. There was only one trip that wasn't fun because I didn't pack something. Unfortunately, leaving hubby's underwear at home ONE TIME was all it took, lol. Now everyone starts reminding me early so I can get all the stuff they want to bring gathered up too, lol. :)

I've haven't done much camping but want to this summer. It's nice just to get away from the house and ringing telephone. It's nice for the kids to take their bikes and I like to set up close to the water and play area.Just nice to be outside but hate the porta potties!!

LOL, yes, even the cell phones won't ring where we've been going recently. However, it is a 2 mile hike for a real rest room. :)

Last year I went camping at the Black Sea, but that wasn't a very nice experience; I was cold at night, didn't sleep well, I was crowded... But I am not against camping, on the contrary, I consider it an adventure. Next time I will buy myself a sleeping bag.
