How do you deal with family members who try to use and run over you?

I have several close family members that have several problems (too many to list). They aren't responsible, they don't like to do anything for themselves and will use anyone. I deal with this by keeping my distance. I still speak with them and am very upset with the fact that they can't be normal people. Am I wrong for being this way? Should I try to help? I am afraid if I do step in and try to help I will be used and hurt by the end of the ordeal. Not to mention my 4 year old little girl. Is keeping my distance a logical decision? How would you handle this situation?

Like you I think we all have family members who refuse to do things for themelves, or cannot support themelves due to poor money management. I to experience this with some of my family members who always think they have it worse than the next person, because they manage there money poorly and before paying there bills or buying there food they spend it on unneccessary items and when they become broke they look to us for help. Eventually we have also become tired of it and are taking steps to distance ourselves from them, sometimes you just have to, in order to have some stress relief.
