I re-use the wax and make more candles!!! I love making candles and this was how i got into making them!!! If you just want to make some nice simple candles you can do it really easily!!!! I get an old yoghurt pot or a similar size plastic container (as long as it can take boiling water!!). You pierce a hole in the bottom of the yoghurt pot and get a wooden skewer (like a kebab /bbq stick) and break it into two same sizes lengths! Put the two sticks side by side and secure them together at each end with an elastic band. Then get a piece of string (not too thick) and cut it so it's about 2 inches longer than the height of the container. Then melt your old wax - i usually use a pan 1/2 filled w boiling water on the stove and another heat proof / metal jug (holding the wax) within the water. Soak your string in the melted wax for about 5 seconds and then hold it straight until the string goes stiff. Thread this through your yoghurt pot hole, and leave a little bit (about 1/2 inch) through the hole. Secure it with blu tac. Then thread the other end of the string through the joined together kebab sticks and pull the string taught. Then all you need to do is pour your melted wax in the yoghurt pot, wait for it to set fully and then take it out of the pot - which can be re-used!!! Then you've got yourself a nice candle!!!

That is a really helpful tip! Although i get little waste from my candles (see my reply below) i do fancy making some candles and that sounds like a really easy way to make them! Thanks!

I warn you now - candle making can be very addicting. Once you start it's hard to stop - so many different types of candles to make, scents to try and shapes to make!!! It's such a fun hobby though, i got started from just using old wax and now i've taken over my sister's old bedroom with all my candle making bits and bobs!!!!

my mother saved it for the next brownout. we only use candles for brownout/blackout. we do have decorative candles. you know, those candles with colors. or if you want, get pins with design if possible and pin it to the candle decoratively, then you can add on laces to make it more look different but cute.

I try to make sure the candles that i buy are good enough quality so that there is barely any leftover. If you have a cheap quality candle with a cheap wick then you'll get a lot of leftover. Also, burning a candle in a container that the candle fits into snugly means it last longer and also you get less waste. Therefore i tend to just throw away the little bit of waste i get, which is usually a couple of mm of wax and the metal bit with the end of the wick in. If you go get a lot of waste, try keeping the excess wax, buy yourself some wick and make your own candles with it!

I take my leftover candles and make more candles with them when I have about a dozen (makes small candles of course). I just went out and bought some wicks, and I melt the left over wax down. I take my old votive candle holders and use them to make layered candles. I have made tons of my own candles. I always save them up for a rainy day when I am stuck in the house and bored with the internet. :)
