Do any other moms feel "out of place" walking through a department store...

I was meeting my girlfriend for lunch so I went to the mall with my 7 month old in his stroller. We had to walk through Nordstoms to get to our meeting place. Before I was a mom I NEVER had this feeling... I just felt soooo "out of place"... I dont know how else to describe it... ~At Home Mommy~ http://mommyathomefornow.blogspot.com www.personalgrowthresources.net

I too have faced this, I think every mother goes through this, or maybe even every woman. After giving birth, you are already self-concious, because you problably haven't lost all the wieght you wish you had, and you're never put together quite like you were pre-baby (unless you have an extra hour to get ready, but that's doubtful). I wouldn't worry too much about it, and the way I look at it, I have the best job, I don't have to be dressed perfectly, I can let my hair down, and just have fun with my kids, SO I don't have anything to feel bad about, To me, It's the best time of my life. (; By the way I have a seven month old as well, He was born on the 5th of September, what about yours?

wow, he is big. sounds like my oldest was. My oldest was about the same weight as yours at this age. My seven month old is about 19 pounds or so, but much smaller than his big brother. Good luck with your online money making endevors. there are some great gpt sites out there where you can make some money ( I made about 100.00 last month) not enough to pay all the bills or anything, but enough to help out. here's my blog about the few sites i've found, if you haven't already found them yourself. http://www.worksfromhome.blogspot.com/

Thank you for the advice and the resources on your blog. (Very nice and to the point blog by the way ;-). I will check out a few of those sites and see what I can set up. I have resigned to the fact that to work from home I will need to find several steams of income. Not just one position. Thanks again! ~ at home mommy~ http://mommyathomefornow.blogspot.com www.personalgrowthresources.net

I felt this way once dragging my kids with me through Macys. Every employee there looked like they were "perfect", and here I was with jeans and a sweatshirt, and 3 kids cutting through the store to get to my destination. All those higher end stores make me uncomfortable. When my MIL turned 50 last month my hubby and I took a night with no kids, went to dinner, had a couple drinks and went to Macy's to look for this crystal dish my MIL wanted as a gift. We were dressed down, jeans and hoodies and the sales lady treated us like garbage. My hubby busted the sales lady giving us the look and nodding her head in our way at her coworker and my hubby snapped. He told her flat out that we could buy anything in that store, pay cash for it and not even bat an eye, it was unfortunate that her judgemental attitude was going to cost her a sale, and we left. It was for the best anyway, I found my MIL's gift at a different store for a better price.

That is horrible that the Macy's EE was so rude! Not everyone would stand up and say something. I would be proud of my husband for standing up and giving her those words... Your right, its still uncomfortable- but she needed to know it was rude and innaproriate and a horrible reflection on Macy's. Kuddo's to your Husband!

I was never a big fan of Macy's to begin with, so no loss on our part. But it made me think about how different people treat you because of your appearance.

I get this feeling everywhere! I spend my time making sure my kids look clean and put together (because you'll get looks from even more people when your children look disheveled!) and then I just grab my bag and flip flops and go! I actually left one day with three hair clips in my hair. I had found them in various places in the house while I was cleaning and stuck them in my hair (intending to return them to the bathroom). I got a phone call and had to leave and forgot they were there! I always feel other moms watching, grandmas watching, women with no kids watching checking me out. My husband says i'm imagining things. I think I feel out of place just about everywhere except Walmart and the grocery store (I guess moms are expected to be there!)

LOL... Walmart and the grocery store... SOOOO TRUE! Now that I have a child, I too sense people watching me more. Watching how I interact with my son and how he is interacting with me or by himself! I guess that just comes along with the territory! Its not so bad I guess unless he is acting up- then I feel bad- like I should either leave or control him better...
