I recently purchased the Mcafee anti virus. I had problems with it, as I already had a spy wear program.
Here are my questions. I will rate the best response and help with the "best response. Thank you.
1: What is the best virus program for xp2000 dell computer
2: What is needed? Virus? Firewall? Spy?
3: What do I do with my spy program? Keep it? What about the programs of microsoft that are in it?
Please advise me of the best protections and what I should do.
I really do appreciate your help. Thanks again. I will read it, and respond, so please come back to see what I say. Bless you, M&M

Avast has been the best hands down and it is free. Now that I am on a new computer it is not usable and have Live Care something or other. I am looking for another. Windows has a great basic firewall and had no problems there either. Yahoo tool bar had a great spyware scanner too that I used. I have new things and have to relearn some and regain others. Good luck and Avast is the one!!!

I never heard of Avast. It's free? Just find it on line? But, what about my programs? I heard they can conflict and that was part of my problem.

Hi my dear friend. I definitely feel that McAfee has the best antivirus program for Windows. I have tried Norton before and did not like it. My company did not like Norton either and is using McAfee. It has a better and easier software to use and configure and does a good job. Having an antivirus program, firewall, spyware and anti spam are all good things to have on your computer as well, particularly the firewall, antivirus and spyware. You do not need more than one spyware. I would keep the one that works best for you, which probably would be McAfee. The other programs are just fine on your computer.

Like you, I loved Mcafee. It kept us from having viruses when eveyone else in our community was having to have their computers repaired or replaced because their anti virus did not work. Not a good thing. Mcafee always caught the viruses before they entered the computer. That is a plus. My sister had to have a computer overhauled twice and replaced twice because of viruses. she finally called me and ask what kind to use. I sugested Mcafee, she took my advice and has not had anymore trouble. She has 7 kids that are on the computer adn they are bound to get viruses.
We hated Norton too.

I currently do not use a anti virus problem but i also dont do a lot of downloading. I have a router which takes care of the firewall part of things, and as for spyware, I have xoftspy.
I know there is a site online that will check your computer for virus's and spyware that is pretty good. my hubby used to use it on his pc.
It's made by the same company that makes pc cillian. Here is the website,

Hope that works for you :)

The best program is called: zonealarm security suite.
It has a firewall, antivirus, spywere and everything in it, and they all work together. You can control each one of them if you want.
I had alote of programs on my computer and instead of protecting it, they caused it alote of trouble.
I can tell you not to install the mcafee, i had it for two years, alote of trouble, and the mcafee also installs a special patch in your registry of your computer. Most people do not know that, i found all about it, in the wrong way.

I too am using Dell...so to answer your questions:
1. You need to activate firewall so no one can just get into ur system, u need antivirus..some already has spyware on them.
2. Spy program, for me..since i dont do a lot of downloads, i dont really need it. but its still ok to have it. If it's connected to any Microsoft..its best not to touch it if its not givng u trouble. It's a hassle re-installing them.
What i use is AVG. It has everything. The lesser the programs, the faster your pc would be, more efficient. Rule of thumb, just be careful in what you download:)) your Dell will be just fine.
The best website who could answer your questions: www.annoyances.org. cool site. take a peak at them:) cheers.

well i think i'll be able to help you out.
1-it depends what antivirus you want to use but keep in mind that norton takes up 24 mb of ram while its working mcafee takes up 16 and avg avast takes up only 8mb whats more its available free of cost!!!!
2-well the best possible choice would be an internet security program it provides an antivirus, firewall, spyware and the best in my opinion is norton internet security.
3-if you are opting for an internet security program u must uninstall your spy program and as for the microsoft programs they are the best replacements for antivirus so internet security program along with microsoft products will by all means keep your system safe and sound.
If you want to follow what i advised then make sure that you have windows defender installed......Enjoy!!

I do not have a dell computer but I do have a new HP computer.
I disabled the Microsoft programs that deal with spam and such. They were just problem makers.
I personally love Mcafee anti virus and their spy program but if you have 2 anti virus programs on the computer they will neither one work correctly. It causes all kinds of problems. Even computer lock ups.
We just got DSL and the company that we have it through offers a free anti virus, firewall and spy protector. I hate it. If it were not included in the cost of the DSL, I would disable them all. Mcafee is so much better. I am tempted to delete it from my computer and purchase Mcafee again. Even if it is higher in cost.
I disable the firewall as soon as the computer is turned on. I hate a firewall. It blocks many of my web pages and it slows down the computer.
I know that this does not answer your questions but I do hope it will help some.

I think u shud use Kaspersky Antivirus for ur computer. This is very efficient antivirus as comapared to any other . It will automatically detect all computer virus ,spywares, adwares etc. and will remove it form ur computer. So u don't need any other rotection software if u r using Kaspersky . I am using it from last several months and have no problem regarding virus or other malicious things on my computer.

It's ok If You bought already MCafe antivirus software..
I can suggest You to download and install free software Spybot & Destroy It can recognize all spywares and also if You choose Tea Timer upon instalation You'll have protection of anything to be written to Windows registry.. ( Preventing anything to be automaticly started when Windows starts..)
Another one solution is to not use IE , to avoid loading active controls from the Web Sites..

first question : the best virus program for xp 2000 try the latest norton with anti spyware, anti virus, firewall, email protection, and also try zone alarm security suite it is the best because its complete from internet security up to anti-virus and anti spyware.Once one of this you apply you should update the latest protection from the provider of the software.
