I know what photo I will NOT be using as my avatar. Today I went to get my driver's license renewed with a new photo. My old ID photo didn't look like me and I didn't like it. The new one is worse- it does look like me.
At first I thought it was just a bad photo, but then it hit me. That's what I really look like! My neighbor told me she just got a new one and it was a good picture. I told her that if they find out about it, they will make her have it taken over.
Do they ever look at the picture they have just taken and say, "Yikes!! We'd better try that one again." No, it's all part of the service at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Anti-Glamor Shots.

As owner of THE worst driver's license picture in the history of driver's license pictures, I can assure you that the employees at the DMV do their best to make sure the picture looks as accurate as possible - the heartless bas tards! :P

Don't tell me that it's accurate. I want to hear that they have a special filter to remove any signs of attractiveness. At least she didn't jump at me and yell, "Boo!!" But that might have improved it.
Say, this history of driver's license pictures, was that written by the same person who wrote the book of love?

They do have a filter- the same one in low-end clothing stores' dressing rooms...where even Cindy Crawford would look like a hag. I thought that *I* had the worst driver's license photo ever. I used it until I got a new boyfriend. Then chopped it to bits and paid for a replacement. Money well spent- even though that photo was, ahem, less than flattering.

Since the pictures are in color, they might be using very unflattering lighting. I think that's the secret of the dressing rooms too.
I must be missing something about the photo and the boyfriend. He wouldn't have been in the picture with you. Was it just symbolic of your time with him? In any case, it was better to chop up the photo than the guy.
PS to xphile: That worst pic that you have, would that be your current avatar? I know it is an actual photo. Tee hee. Why won't they (the DMV) allow us to submit our own photo? Then you might really want a license with an 8 x 10 on it.

Aren't the photos wonderful?? LOL just joking!
I just moved and I have a CDL so I had to get my address so I had to get the license photo done. Unfortunately, it does look like me but then I always thought I was unphotogenic at best. Does that tell you anything?

Erma Bombeck (I think) had a saying that when you start to look like your passport photo, it's time to go home. At least it doesn't look as bad as some of the mug shots we see.

I have heard of a few people who had good pictures, but I have never heard of them taking more than one picture for anybody. My friend's husband even had a pic with his eyes closed. He would make a point of looking at somebody and closing his eyes when he had to show his driver's license.
