I've been finding myself wondering if I'm depressed or not. How does one tell?

There are several symptoms of depression. You feel exhausted. You feel sad. You feel like a failure. You feel all you have done is make mistakes. You have difficulty sleeping. The best way to find out if you are depressed is to talk to a doctor. When I was diagnosed with depression I had few symptoms.

I don't want to get out of bed. I want to sleep ALL the time. I don't want to talk to anyone and I don't want to be around anyone or go anywhere. In worse case, I feel like I am sinking in a dark whole and I can't make myself get out of it. My dad can't be still and feels like the walls are closing in on him.

When I am really worried about something and I can't get out from one thing's worries I am depressed about that. That is the way u can check. Are you worried or sad about something?

Great question. I think I've allowed myself to become overburdened by years worth of collective insecurities, fears, and inaction, coupled with a lot of regret and a touch of shame. You've made me think. Thank you.

I know that I'm depressed if I feel too lazy to get out of bed or to even move a single muscle. I also stay quiet and you wouldn't hear my voice the entire day or the entire moment that I'm depressed. I'm really too lazy to do anything and to say something. I think it's bad though. There's this certain feeling that lets you know you're depressed and not lonely.

Depression and loneliness, can certainly be connected though, one can get depressed from loneliness, and when one gets depressed they can shut people off and thus get lonely. So much of our behaviour is so cyclical. The most common theme people've listed here is listlessness--not wanting to move--not wanting to engage in life. Wow. interesting...
