What do you think about Slim Fast?

Slim Fast is a milk shake for dieting and the idea is that the person on a diet (that is me) has to have a SlimFast for lunch and eat a normal meal later.
Does anyone have any experience of it, do you think it works or not?
I would like to lose up to 1 stone quickly before the summer.
I do exercise regularly but I always seem put it back on again in the winter...
So I was thinking about trying this method, is it worth it and do you have any better ideas.
Perhaps this product has other names in other countries, this is Britain I am talking about but it is possible it is branded under a different name where you are.
What are your thoughts on this please and do you have any other advice.

I didn't do well with Slim fast. I did try it for several weeks but was so hungry after drinking it. I actually gained on it. I am doing much better with Lean Cuisine dinners. The portion size is good and takes time to eat and chew, as opposed to just gulp down. I feel like I ate. I also try to find sneaky ways to get some exercise. I use the stairs instead of the elevator. I walk around the whole store before checking out. I also try to have low calorie, healthy snacks on hand instead of sweets.
I was concerned that my husband wasn't eating at all during the day except for cans of Coke. I bought him chocolate slim fast and he drinks it in the car on the way to work.

A long time ago, we're talking a good 20 years, my mom had a friend that had some bad reactions with her internal organs because of the slim fast diet. Now I don't know the circumstances at all or if she abused the system and didn't do it right or what. For all I know they could have changed the formula a great deal since then too. But ever since, I've been wary of trying that stuff. I believe it ended up shutting down her liver and something else and the doctor did say it was from the Slim Fast diet she was using. So I just have a bad feeling for the stuff in me but I've seen a lot of people use it. I think it tends to be more so for those who need to lose 10 pounds or so.

that's shocking to hear that, and it would make anyone wary, but I wonder if your mom's friend overdid it (for a long time) I think overall we need to take a long term approach to healthy eating, but also I think that in the short term for losing a few pounds it can be a boost? It is not a long term solution and I think then it could be dangerous?

I used the slimfast diet after my son and t worked great for me. However, you do need to stick with it. The key is not only drinking the shakes but eating snacks in between. Studies have shown that the body really needs about small six meals a day instead of 3 large ones. Also, when you eat a few times a day it keeps your metabolism up.

Years ago, I tried Slim Fast. It wasn't for me but that doesn't mean to say that it wouldn't be good for you. I didn't lose very much weight at all with it. Then I switched to a low carbohydrate diet and always lost 9-10 lbs in the first week. Try searching for Slimsize, or Slimwise online. I'm sure you'll find it. You can eat pleasant things with it too.
The first week's loss wasn't maintained as it was mainly water, but in subsequent weeks, I lost around 3 lbs between weigh-ins.
Good luck with your weight loss and brightest blessings.

I did it for a week ,but is hard to keep this type of diet for a long time. You may loose maybe one pound a week. As soon as I have the money, I'm going to try Nutri System because I have friends who have lost a lot of weight.

I guess it is okay for small weight loss, but if you need to lose a whole lot it is not healthy. There has been reports in the usa where people have had terrible side effects with those kinds of diets, including kidney problems etc.
I tried it but liquid diets make me feel hungry all the time.

hi, that's very true. I guess the idea of it is to help the person who is taking it to overcome those hunger pangs but that is not always going to be easy. I would have to be careful about kidney problems and perhaps then it is not a good idea to do this for a long time? Then there is again the question of how to keep that weight off.
It is not always as easy because humans naturally have weight fluctuations anyway.

I tried it, and was not sucessful. I ate the same amount of food. I thought by drinking the drinks it will decrease my hunger, and it did not. I am still trying to lose weight, but now I exercise more, and eat a lot of salads.

Well I have not used slim fast but I one of my best friends uses this and she has lost a lot of weight on slim fast she looks fantastic and she says that she is so happy since using this. Also she uses it two times a day and only has to have one main meal with veggies. It has really been worth the money

Yeh, tht will be great if someone has any ideas about Slim Diet. IN fact, I don't need it for my self as I am well cut and trim. But I would like to advice some one who is in need of it.
There are so many scams going around weight lose at present. One has to be careful about any tall claims that many people make all the time.
In fact I would suggest and request that any one who has good knowledge reagarding all fast slim diets, should list them here for the benefit of all MyLot community. Good luck.

Slim Fast is a meal replacement formula and it can effectively help you lose weight if you will religiusly follow the regimen. I tried this milk shake replacement before, the Shapeworks. What I did is to replace my breakfast with a glass of milkshake. Any brand of milkshake provides the same ideal balance of protein and other nutritional elements that will help satisfy your hunger and gives you lasting energy. Just be careful not to stop abruptly or you might experience what they call the rebound effect. Your body sort of works as a sponge so there's a tendency to bounce back to your original state or worse yet, you will gain much more. Good luck and continue to exercise regularly. If you can refrain on soda, pork and rice so much the better. I lost 24 lbs in 4 months the last time I tried the milkshake diet.

Sounds good, well done!
I sometimes wonder if all it really does it balance out the vitamins so that the person who is taking the milkshake diet gets the right amount of daily vitamins whereas it is difficult to get the correct balance even with a lot of fruit and vegetables the balance is not exactly right. Just a theory I have anyway.

It works as long as you follow the plan. you must have it 2 meals a day and 1 actual meal that consists of actual food not fast food. People fail on diets because they are not disciplined. Excercise is good for cardiovascular system but you won't shed weight unless you have a caloric deficit.

I have tried it, and it has too much sugar and you can feel awful. It is easier to eat a large breakfast of whatever you want, salad and carb for lunch, and a light meal of 300 calories (healthy choice frozen) in the evenings and skip snacks. You will loose that way without starving. Good luck.

I know this discussion is an older discussion but I didn't want to make another discussion on this in the fear that their will be many other discussions on it. Not sure if this person is still on mylot but under a new name, or just what, but here I'll answer anyway!
My fiance and I just started slim fast, and it seems to be working to qualm our hunger. We're using the newer optimum and are enjoying our chocolatey (milk chocolate) breakfast, and a yogurt from breyers for lunch! Hopefully this will work to shed those few lbs before our wedding in a few months.
Good Luck to all on a diet.
