this week, my son had two meltdowns at school about writing projects. Both were exceptionally well sone, bu tthe comments were very negative saying he was not allowed to express opinions - just facts please. He was so frustrated! My frustration (I work in the school system) is that when kids finish required work they are told to sit and read. Not draw, not think...just read. This, in my humble opinion is not always such a great thing. Don't get me wrong - reading is great, but why shouldn't they have an opportunity to just sit and use their imagination to be creative. Soooo, when I talked to my son, we decided to construct a type of journal for home. Once or twice a week, we write a sentence or more or draw a picture totally out of our imagination. In a few months, we are ging to go back, put it all together and make it into a book. It gives my son a creative outlet, me some time to just spend with him, and most improtantly, a chance to love him and show him how great he is. It is working very well. Maybe this will work at your house too.
Have a fantastic day.
