It has been said, "Not everything that is learned is contained in books."
What's the difference between knowledge gained from experience and knowledge gained from books.
And In your opinion, which source is more important and more effective in the life ?
which are the most ? people that gained their knowledge from experience or people gained their knowledge from books ?

Although books are a great way to obtain knowledge, in my opinion a book is nothing more then the next man or womans opinion. Life experience is a much better way to go. Once again this is only my opinion, & it's an opinion from a man who reads alot of books:-) (Great Question)

I definitely believe experience is by far the more useful in every day situations, though of course external knowledge in certain fields of work are also important, like science, mathematics and history. What is important is whatever we know we must find a way to apply it in a useful manner where others can see the real benefit of this knowledge. For me knowledge is best when it can be put to good use and for the benefit of Mankind and all the Earth's creatures.

I believe that knowledge gained from experience is still best over knowledge gained from books. No book can teach you about how to deal with real life situations like motherhood, parenthood, success, friendship, or loss. Books give us guidelines, but we do the hands-on when confronted in reality. We do what we think is best in a given situation out of our own decisions and not from what we read in the books. As books tend to be idealistic in theories, not everything becomes applicable and achievable.

KNowledge gained from experience is much more useful than knowledge from books. My kids are home schooled and they learn so much more by doing than just by reading. I am a very fluent reader and I have a lot of "book knowledge" but I think that the day to day experiences that you have are a lot more helpful than the things that you read.

Can you get this question in another way.
Experience Gained from Knowledge ( Books, Magazine, TV and internet .... ect )or from life events?
It should be Gained from both, But life events gain a long term Experience ( Take a long time ).
The short term can be gained from Books, TV, Internet as an advanced Knowledge as will as our life current event.
That is mean, to have more experience, be a good reserch
as will as make use of the events within and outside your area.

I believe experience is more important, but you can't have experience if you haven't studied and learned them from the books. So both are still important, only difference is book (or you may also call it "concept") comes first, then experience. Books are really essential source of reference, while experience is priceless. Did I make sense? hehehe
You can then appreciate what you have learned once you apply it to your work.

Both are important in life. Real life teaches us the way to take things. I mean life helps us to develop our common sense. But books give an algorithm to gain knowledge. I feel that common sense is one thing that one should have in this world to move ahead. And it can only be achieved by experiments in life.

yep. both have important roles in our lives. we learn from both things. we read books and learn from them and we get through with life and learn from everything we go through.

We can read about many things from books but books would never be able to replace firsthand experience. Therefore, knowledge gained from your own experience would definitely worth more than just by reading some pages from the book. After you have read, then you need to get the real life experience. That is the best.

I personally have always thought that knowledge that was gained from personal experiences was hardest learned, but longest remembered. You can always pick up a book and learn something, but whether you remember what you read, and successfully apply it to your life is another story.
Book smarts will only get you so far in life and will not teach you a whole lot about actually living in the everyday world. Book knowledge is basically black and white with no shades of gray, whereas knowledge that is gained from experiences tends to come in all different colors and tends to mold the person that we are.
There are a lot of really smart people out there, but if I had to choose a category, I would definitely go with someone that had the personal knowledge and know how, over the guy that had only read how to do it in a book anyday! ;0)

What ever you read from books during your education is related to subjects that are in your course. This is the knowledge that is helpful for one to encounter the talent exams or Competitive exams. At the same time many would be reading books like novels, life stories through which one can gain the knowledge pertaining to real life.
"Practice makes a man perfect" the same way ones experiences will be handy in understanding the real life situations. I can give an example here, yesterday i was feeling bad about the earnings on mylot. Then today i came to know that its absolutely the quality of the posts that matter rather than the quality. That way i was enlightened where my experience is counted.
I say knowledge is gained through both books as well as experience. But knowledge through experience plays an important role. I say Experience is more important cause what ever we read from books will again be tried in real life and that kind of experiments will fetch some knowledge.
Experience is the main factor of gaining knowledge. Bookish knowledge is also important but the major part is by experience.

I very much agree with what he said. But i would like to add a little more what he said. Knowledge is like getting the first hand look at what is what & experience is like feeling what you have done & learning from it as well whether there was anything wrong that was done or if there should be any kind of an improvement.. As people say knowledge is like an Ocean which will never satisfy your hunger or thirst, but Experience will make people learn from their mistakes & which does satisfy the hunger or thirst.
Gaining knowledge can be done by reading school books or novels or even by seeing the actions of another person who is doing his job. But Experience comes when you are in the field & feel & see what is what.

We never forget knowledge that we learn from experience. Many of us do not apply the knowledge gained from books to our daily lives. It is a pity that we can't gain more knowledge from books so that some thing we won't have to experience if it is something unpleasant or costly.

Yes, it is true that books give good amount of knowledge, but the most important of all is knowledge gained through experience as that is what will count when the knowledge will be required to be placed into actual practice...

I will give you an example. Before I went downhill skiing for the first time I read a book about it so I had the knowledge. When I got to the slope for the first time I gained the skill. I had the knowledge but it wasn't until I applied the knowledge that I learned to ski. I think it is valuable to gain knowledge from both experience and books.

Being aan avid book reader, my preference would be learning from books.
On the other hand, life experience is very useful, but only to those who learn from lifes experiences. A wide variety of experiences is more beneficial, rather than a narrow view of life lived entirely in your own suburb.
The best situation is both books & life experiences.

wow, that is a very difficult question. And it will be interesting to read what other people say on the subject. I don't have answer for that. I think I am inclined not to put the two as which one has more influenced because it might be almost impossible to figure it out.
Experience has lot of role to play and so are book knowledge. And even regarding the number of people...oh, I wish somebody would do the survey and report.

yes,not everything that is learned is contained in books.however what is contained in the is already a proven fact which is very helpful in our daily lives.our own experiences is just an additional knowledge that will guide us thru..therefore books plus our own expirience makes our lives easier.
