Those of you who know me, will know hom much I adore my cats. My little baby kitten Lily - just 10 months old and my only girl cat is very precious to me. Well, I am here to tell you sadly my Lily had a bad accident today - she is now at the Vets - they don't know if she will survive.
I can't sleep and I can't eat and I'm not coping at all with it, so I thought I would write something here to try and keep my mind occupied. I still don't know what happened - I went to have a shower and she was in the garden playing - 15 minutes later I came downstairs, and she was sitting in the middle of my lounge floor with her foot hanging off. All the skin had been shredded off and the bones were showing. I have never seen anything so horible in my life. Since seeing it I have been sick so any times, as I am very squeamish.
I rushed her to the emergency Vet and they don't know how it happened. They don't think it was a car running over her foot because the bones don't seem broken - just all the skin is sheared off. They don't know whether they can amputate the foot, or the entire leg, or if she may survive without that drastic treatement. At this stage she is in shock and they are not sure her little heart would survive surgery anyway. Also there is a huge risk of infection.
So please think of my little girl tonight. I'm not going to ask you to pray because I am not religious so that would be a little hypocrtical of me, but if you can spare a thought, please spare it for her. She was in such pain and screaming all the way to the Vets in the car, and I am still haunted by those screams. Thanks for reading this.

Thank you. People who know me here know I am normally pretty tough, but I admit this has throrw me badly and I just can't stop crying. My partner keeps on telling me to go and lie down and try to sleep, and drink edless cups of tea, but all I'm doing is staring at this computer screen and waiting for the phone to ring. Thanks again for your nice words.

I dont know you but you sound like a kind hearted person, and for you to go through this, must just be absolutely horrible for you. Also even if they have to amputate, she will be fine, My friends cat got shot and they had to amputate, she was back to her normal little self in about 2 months. But I will be thinking of you.

Rosie dear, how awful for you and puss. The poor little girl. I so hope she will be ok. Talk to your boys for comfort, can you give them cuddles? That may comfort you.
My dog Luce met me one day as I came home from college. She was limping and holding up her left front paw which was a dripping, bloody mess. She hopped straight in the car and I drove her to the vet. Her flesh was shredded and her dew claw was hanging off, one toe was broken and another broken in 2 places. They said it looked like a crush injury but it was actually done by my father's ride on lawn mower. She must have been following him and come too close to the blades.
Is it possible this happened to Lily? If she was quick her flesh may have been shredded with no bones broken.
She's resting her little body and recuperating and rebuilding her strength while she's under sedation, please do the same for yourself or you'll end up with an ulcer or something.
Sending healing thoughts your way for all of you.

Oh that is so horrible about your dog. And I guess it is possible she got near a lawnmower, as so many people here are out mowing their lawns in the evening, though I don't recall hearing any mowers at that time last night, and my neigbours were out. There are some outbuildings near here where there is some old wood and very rusty old nails - I fear she may have torn her foot on some of that and got trapped somehow, and ripped it more trying to free herself. But I don't know for sure. Thanks for your response.

Oh my friend, I'm sorry to hear about Lily. I can't stop checking on my bunny while reading your post. I know exactly what you're going through. I lost 3 dogs in the past too. I hope you more courage. There are simply no better words for me to pitch in here. Please, rosie, take care of yourself. God bless you and Lily.

when my little puppy, lalurp, was vomitous and not into eating one day, i rushed her to her vet. she got proper treatments and was able to get back onto her feet again after some days.
i admit, i felt really sad seeing my puppy that time. she was so weak and was nearly dying. and i am glad that she's now better and doing great again.
i feel sad about your cat. some people won't understand the owner-pet relationship. it's hard to explain. but pet lovers like us don't just treat animals as pets... we treat them as a part of our family. we love them a lot and care for them so much. whenever they feel bad, we feel upset... when we feel sad, our pets can feel the sadness we are having. there's this certain connection between us and them.
and i hope your cat will be okey. is she the one on your avatar?
take care...

Thanks for your lovely words, and your kindness. And no - she is not the one on my avatar - that is Sasha - the biggest and oldest of my cats. This pictre is of Lily when she was just 10 weeks old. She is such a frail little thing, bless her.

How is she, hon?
Has there been any word from the vet since last night?
I realize it's Sunday, but the vets here let me call to check on my dog every day when he was under their care for 5 days straight.
Seriously, I hope she's okay. Having a 3-legged kitty isn't so bad. Having only 3 legs never stopped my Mittens from climbing curtains or anything else she wanted to do.
Hang tough, Rosie.
We are with you as best as we can be through cyberspace.

You poor thing, you must be feeling terrible. It is such a shock when our animals get injured as they cannot tell us what has happened and we cannot tell them it will be alright. Its weird how they do not know what happened, do you think an animal such as a dog or fox could have done this to her. It sounds like a very vicious attack.
I do believe they have 9 lives so I hope Lily will recover. You are both in my thoughts.
Please keep us updated if you can.
Best wishes x

Thanks. As for what happened - I realy don't know. wW do have a lot of "urban" foxes around here, but the vets said there are no bite marks - just all the skin has been ripped off to the bone. I wondered if some vile people could have got hold of her to do it, butr she really never goes close to people outsde, and again the Vet said there is no sign of damage anywhere else, and no knife wounds. It is very, very bizarre.

What is such a big consolation is that she came back to you, even when suffering as she did. This shows she has determination to survive and her bond with you is very strong. She is so lucky to have you as her owner.

Oh my goodness Rosie. This is such terrible news. I don't know what I would do if something happened to my little lLeo. I will certainly be thinking of you and Lily.
I can't think of anything that could have happened for Lily to be in that way. It is such a shame.
Hopefully she will pull through and you can nurse her back to health.

Thanks Claire. No - the Vets don't know either. I wondered if she could have got her foot caught in a trap in the woods near where I live, but they said it didn't look like a "trap" injury. All I know is that she isn't so keen on people, - she won't let anyone outside handle er or some near her, so no one outside could have picked her up and physically done something to her. It is an accident of some kind definately.

I am so sorry to hear this. I have two cats so I know how close you can be to them. I hope that the vet will be able to do something for her. One of my cats I had when my daughter was little was run over by the UPS man who didn't even stop. I was devastated as this was a kitten I had rescued when I was pregnant with my daughter. My thoughts are with you.
