Blasphemy!

On here on mylot ther eis obviously people from all different regions, all different walks of life and different cultural and religious backgrounds.
I think that using blaspemy in such a community website is very disrespectful for everyone. I must admit, that myself in front of family and stuff will let out the occasional "Oh my God!" when something bad happens but I do not mean it in a blasphemous way. It is just something that I say.
I do understand though that it is something that people may find offensive and therefore I don't use it in publc because you never know who may find this rude and offensive and for that reason I don't use it on myLot.
What's even worse though is that on myLot it is being typed. I always think that the written word is so much stronger than the spoken word as it there for all to see and can be kept forever unlike spoken words.
So what I am asking is....
"Do you find it offensive?"
"Do you stop yourself saying it?"
"Do you say it and think that maybe now you shoudl reconsider?"
Or do you think that "It is only a phrase and not meant with bad intent so why bother trying to stop yourself?"
And before everyone jumps on the bandwagon and think that this is a "rel;igious nutters" post. It isn't. I do say omg in life, i don't go to church and i probably will go to hell when i die cos i haven't welome the lord into my soul and asked forgiveness. But hey I am sticking up for him!! LOL.

well i'd have to say i'm going with the "its no big deal, just a phrase" one. theres so many bad words and slangs out there just let it roll right off you. everyone can have their own opinion so i dont think people should get offended by anything at all in general. they just may not agree.

Its not like it si an opinion though using the words "Oh my God"
I just think that it something that may upset some poeple and may offend some people so why say it when you could say something else and get the exact same emphasis.
I know alot of people just type as they speak and I do this too. I just cut out all the swear words and impolite words such as damn, bloody, crap. These words aren't swear words but they just aren't pretty just like the phrase oh my god.

the truth offends many people, Im not politically correct so that that I dont offend someone. I feel speaking the truth is something that this country has failed horribly in for many years. Nothing has gotten any better by this new age thinking that everyone is doing now.

As far as I know most people don't take it out of its context, if things are being said casually and no real harm is meant then most people don't take offense, what I worry more about in mylot is real religious discussions and real abuses flying around in it, yes it's freedom of speech but some people are driving it to the extreme limits.. personally i stay away from religious discussions since it always seems that people are very hard-headed there and it's easy to offend people even if you try very hard not to.

Personally I don't find it offensive but then I don't have any religious beliefs (I love the "religious nutters" bit by the way!). Actually although I swear like a trooper I very rarely blaspheme and I don't think I've ever typed it either. I had quite a religious upbringing so I guess subconsciously all the lectures about "taking the lords name in vain" have stuck with me.

I don't find it offensive, the greatest politeness is never to take offence not never to give it, but I do find it disrespectful
all the best urban

You didn't strike me as a religious nutter and your post seems worded in a thoughtful and cosnderate manner. Like you, I use, Gawd! and OMG but I do not mean it in a blasphemous way. It is just something that I say as a sort of verbal exclamation point.
I will choose the: "Do you say it and think that maybe now you shoudl reconsider?"
I guess I should think about who I am saying it in front of as not to offend. There are several elderly aunties I know that would be upset and I wouldn't, or I would TRY, not to say it in front of them.
Mylot is such a pop culture area it had never even crossed my mind that it would be taken offensively. In those terms, I think people need to try to be flexible. I am happy to try to decipher posts that don't make a lot of sense because the writer doesn't have much English, or they may be writing about a topic that I find odd or even mildly offensive. I don't let any of that ruffle me and I hope people don't get ruffled by me either, because if I offend someone here at Mylot, it would be unintentional!
