Who is your favorite Star Trek captain?

While I sit here and make fun of my fiance for being a Trekkie I must admit I get into watching some of the shows with him. My favorite captain would have to be Piccard. He seems to be the best at making decisions for the benefit of the crew and he has a very strong character. I love watching Voyager but Captain Janeway really gets on my nerves. And I've really gotten into watching Enterprise I think Jonathan Archer makes a great captin. I would say he comes in second. I haven't watched enough of the origninal series or Deep Space Nine to make a decision on those 2 captains.

No-one will ever beat Capt Kirk. That man, in his prime, not the Elvis years, could beat anyone in a fistfight and on top of that was the consumate ladies man (even if the ladies wear all green). How he was able to control that ship in a suit that was about 3 sizes too small is a miracle to me.

Loved the show but preferred Mr Spock. Kirk was too full of himself.

I agree with you all around. I think Captain Piccard is my favorite. He is not only a good leader and captain, but he has a lot of personal qualities that I like. He seems like someone who has learned lessons in life and from his mistakes. I liked Captain Janeway, but she was a bit annoying. My favorite character on Voyager was probably B'Elanna. I think Archer was pretty good, and I like Scott Bakula, but he seems a little bit like Kirk and Kirk was too "cowboy" for me. Sisko, on Deep Space Nine, was also a good captain. That show had a spiritual factor in it that I liked.

I never could watch the whole Enterprise show, I can't stand Bakula for some reason.
I liked Sisko, Picard and Spock out of the whole bunch of them. Ok, so Spock wasn't a captain but he should have been.

This is a hard choice. I have a soft spot for Kirk since I grew up with Star Trek and he was the Captain but I think he was far better in the movies then he was in the show. He was good in the show but some of it seemed very stiff and detached. Piccard though was excellent in the show and the movies. He knew how to handle so much but could also admit there was stuff he couldn't handle. That he needed help with. It made him more human in my opinion. Kirk didn't have that aspect and I think it hurt him. So I'm going to go with Piccard as my favorite captian.

Good point but in the late 60s Kirk was exactly what we all expected although I have to admit it was Spock that I really liked rather than Kirk.

I have a friend who just loves star trek. I on the other hand have never enjoyed it at all. My friend got all the DVD's of Star Trek and said to me "lets make a night of it and watch them all at once".......I am thinking "How can I get out of this???" She began laughing then. I was thankful that she remembered taht I hated Star Trek and she was just teasing me. Thank goodness..

I also grew up with the original series but in hindsight Kirk no longer ranks as my favorite. That may be because I consider the Next generation series a cut above the original on just about every level. Still, that doesn't mean my favorite captain was Picard either, although I enjoyed him immensely as his character grew.
My favorite Star Trek captain (as opposed to Enterprise captain), was ... Kelsey Grammer as the captain of the Bozeman. He managed to make brief appearances in the Next Generation series and an audio appearance in one of the movies (I'll let the die hards give you that one).

Kelsy Grammer was a captain in NG? Now I'll have to hunt for those episodes, I'm really curious.

I grew up with Kirk and remain loyal to the gold braided sleeves and the butterscotch coloured captain's tunic!! I do like Picard too, but not as much.Never watched the others.

Mine is James T. Kirk.He is a great leader. He always put his crew first. I'm old school. I have only seen the original series. I did try the Next Generation but I couldn't get into it. And for the others, I didn't even try them.

They're all pretty good for one reason or another except for Enterprise, I couldn't get into that series at all.

I love Picard. I think he is the most distinguised captain the Enterprise has ever seen, followed closely by Kirk. I grew up watching the original Star Trek with my dad every Saturday evening, and there is definitely something to the dynamics of the original crew that I just enjoy more.

I loved the first Star Trek but I've seen all the episodes so many times that I can't watch them anymore.
NG was pretty good too but all of them had something appealing about them.

jean-luc picard is the best captain for me IMHO coz he had some strengths and some major flaws (like ever seeking revenge against the Borg) that makes him more a person.
