The fact is, you won't find an operating system with more hardware and software compatibility than Windows. Hardly anyone uses Linux, so hackers don't bother making viruses for it. If you can actually manage to get Ubuntu working with your hardware and don't have too many bugs, it is adequate for web surfing and basic office work. Open Office works just fine and Ubuntu has the same cheesy games as Windows like Solitaire and FreeCell.
You will not be able to watch DVDs since Linux based movie players do not have the codec necessary. In order to watch DVDs on Linux you must buy a special media player or illegally download a codec. Linux media players stink. They are not as good as Windows Media player. Hardly any REAL games work on Linux. The games that can work with Linux are extremely hard to set up. The instructions on how to set them up vary from one distro to the next. Good luck finding people who can and will help you if you are having problems with Linux.
If you don't game, Macs are a decent alternative to Windows. Software is a little harder to find and costs more, but they are decent machines. I'm not a Mac guy, nor do I want to be, but if you don't mind shelling out extra cash, they aren't bad.

For me windows is more user friendly, and Linux is good for networking. And Mac is a little hard for me.
I use windows.

I think you should switch to Linux. Linux is by far the best OS to-date and will always be. And who says that you can't play games on linux. Well you cannot play heavy games on linux but you can always play small office games on linux (Which are far better than the games that windows provides built-in). So in my personal opinion, Linux is the BEST!!!!
If you need help on which linux distro to use? I will guide you....
You can use Ubuntu (The no. 1 linux distro). It's user-friendly and it has a great community support for newbies.
So switch to Linux and tell me after that how do you feel!

All three OS are good but for different purposes. Windows is the easiest and the most used OS. Linux is free and it's the most stable OS and MAC is used because of some software used in industry. From all three i prefer windows, because it works with much many categories of programs than all others OS does.

I disagree with the claim that Linux is the most stable. That's more of a myth started by people who like Linux and hate windows. My experience with Linux had crashes, and driver conflicts. Even the keyboard drivers didn't load on startup most of the time.

I would never recommend Linux for networking. It is much more difficult to network a linux PC than a Windows PC. It's hard enough just trying to find drivers for your networking components in Linux. To my knowledge the only area where Linux has a real foothold is as a server environment.

I would say to use a Mac because they have almost the same stuff as Windows. For example you can get Microsoft Office for Mac, you can get Opera and Firefox for Mac, you can get Yahoo Instant Messenger, AIM, ICQ, and MSN messenger for mac, and almost all companies create drivers for Mac. I love Mac a lot, but I personally don't own one, I own a PC with Windows.
I think Linux is okay, but since many companies don't create drivers for their products you may have to struggle with it (or you can install it on another part of your computer so you can dual-boot two operating systems). It is so annoying when you can't connect to the internet because Linux doesn't have the drivers for your software.
I'm from the USA. Therefore I would say a Windows or Mac can help most office users. If you are very technology savvy and you think you can create drivers for some of your computer accessories then try Linux.
