Restful sleep provides the foundation for our mental and physical well-being. Millions of people suffer from some form of insomnia, resulting in fatigue, lack of mental alertness, and weakened physical and mental health. Lack of sleep also contributes to both minor and major injury accidents.
Avoid bed-time snacks, particularly grains and sugars.
Do not watch television or do any work in bed.
Once in bed, close your eyes and simply "feel your body" - this means focus on your body and wherever you notice tension, consciously relax that area. Then, simply watch your slow easy breathing until you fall asleep.
Go to bed as early as possible. Our body systems, particularly the adrenal glands, do a majority of their recovering during the hours of 11PM and 1AM.
So aim to be in your bed with the lights out between 9:30 P.M. and 10:30 P.M.

I have had insomnia for many years. It's really hard to function when you are just so tired all the time too! My daughter is an adult and while I live with her and her three children under 8, I am not the primary caregiver for the kids so I can go back to bed during the day and take naps. It's not ideal and I wish that I could sleep nights but I am just trying to function in my life with what I have and what I can do. If I didn't have my health problems, I would take some of the new sleeping aids out there and see if they worked for me but I am unable to try them due to the particular health problems that I have.
Some of the things that I have tried that once in a while help me to sleep are nice warm soothing shower, reading a book, small snack. Basically I just go on the computer and do things online until my eyes start refusing to stay open, then I go to bed. My usual sleeping time is around 4AM, that's generally when I fall asleep the most often. I'm sorry I don't have better ideas for helping you to fall asleep.

I too also have trouble sleeping. As I write this it is 3:15 a.m. I have a hard time turning off my head. I also can't get the radio out of my head. It really isn't a radio. Just noise I hear that sounds like a radio trying to tune in. It makes it hard to sleep.

If the day after I have to go to school, then I go to sleep at 12 o`clock!
But if I`m in holiday, for example, or is week-end, I go to sleep at 3 o`clock. I usually let the music to play, at the PC, and I program the computer to turn of after a half an hour. And I sleep quickly!
