Sometime back as i watched my younger bro play a game of Chess with my cousin , I realized a very important thing .
There was a time when he used to win a game only by crying the roof off , but now he had improved a lot. I observed my cousin was playing rather poorly , and my brother ovwer confident of victory challenged me to continue the game. Being a rather poorly played game , the chances of winning were like 1 in 4 however i decided to sweat it to the end .
In the next few rounds I sacrificed a pieces and was left with a Rook and a Knight as the supporting pieces .The one trick that has held me steady over the years is that I plan the game to the end which is rather lacking in most.My brother had a number of pieces on his side and dropped his guard .He was checkmated in the next few minutes.
So what did I learn ? Not only in a game of Chess but also in real life ,one should plan it till his goal. Intermediary planning at junctures may be needed but still he goal and the approach should be well defined.

That is very true from the Game of Chess you can learn a lot! Thas the reason it is called as a game of Royals. You need to make the strategy in such a fashion that you will loose the minimum strength of your and you will suceed at the end with few pawns left to celebrate your victory!
If you look in the Indian History The Kings they never used to enter in a battle until unless it was unavaiodable for they knew that battle may be won by any one side but the loosers are from both the sides! There is lot of loss of resources. Thas why they used to come to compromise which they used to call as Sandhi, before actual battle!
Well Chess is nothing but a represenntation of a battle field where you need to make strategies and you shpould be firm to acieve your gosl of capturing the opponent's King!
Here like in our daily life we need to have lot of patience, foresight, short term strategies, long term stategies, making both short term goals and long term goals and implimemting them !
If needed we need to sacrifice our soldiers and pther powers and at the same time we need to attcak the enemy mercilessly other wise our whole existance will be jeoparadised!
Thus as you said Chess teaches a lot to learn from it and the thinhgs are to be incorporated in our lives! Generally the people who are good at playing Chess are quite sucessful people in their actual lives also! They are quite and calm and quite balanced! They never over react and show off much and when time comes they show their ability to defend themselves or even defeat the opponents!
Nice topic of discusion! Keep it up ! All the best!

quite right AKRao ... personally I feel Chess trains a person in being a strategist . planning is integral to just about an activity we pick . also i agree with the fact that war is a loss to both sides , loss of resource , people and wealth.Likewise there is this thing about over reacting .. know what ... Chess players can also be very good criminals ... what do you think ??

Yes, I beleive, you are correct. It is simply a strategy game, and it will make even you learn to be a great strategist. It increases your capability of thinking far in the future. I personally believe, it even makes you alert, of what decision you got to make. So, its really nice game. But don't you think, it even makes you learn some good things like never feeling down, always fight to be the best?

Really, this is true. Once, I too didn't give up till end, and reached near the goal And this has really inspired me to get till the end of my task. I had betrayed my friend a long time ago, and so I lost his friendship, and along with his, a few others too. Now, I am trying to get into his friendship back, but I am not able to, and so, I had left it. But Now, I will be back to the job....thanks to you!
This is quite an inspiration.......see, we can learn so many things from:
1. Mylotting
2. Games
3. Friends
4. Chess
