We absolutely do not give our daughter everything she wants. Our NO means No If we say it we mean and no amount of begging or whinning will change our minds. If she continues to ask and beg she is sent to her room for ten minutes. Where is to sit on her bed and do absolutely nothing until we come get her. She hardly ever begs anymore It's been a few months since being sent to her room. Also my husband and I always back each other up so there is no playing one parent against the other.

Its not a good idea to give kids whatever they want. They'll never learn how to value what they have. They grow up expecting to obtain things easily.
The method of handling kids depends on what they are asking for. It could be that they are asking for more sweets. In that case say "No, you can't have anymore because you already had one". I suppose if they demand to have more, you can ask them about how they would feel if they had all they wanted and in the end had a toothache and needed to go to the dentist. Usually kids will see the reasoning and realise that too much is not good.
Its easiest if you start to decline request for some things when they are very young. The older they get the harder it is. You can even make it a tradition that they get to choose something every week that cost below a certain amount, provided they are well behaved.
Teaching them the value of money is a good thing too. I started being concious about the value of money when I was very very young. I have a hobby of collecting coins. My mom and I would count them out when the collecting tin was full.
I get to keep the change from my dad's pocket as pocket money. From there it will be used to buy things. Most times I just keep the money in the bank, but other times I will it to buy something.
I think I am able to budget well because my household talk about money matters a lot.
