I am really getting fed up with all the America bashing I have been hearing on tv.I believe people are entitled to their own opinions but we are constantly being bombarded with people who act like their governments are perfect. As mad as we get at other countries, you don't see us burning other countries flags or coming out by the thousands to insult them . I have even seen it on mylot. Mylot is basically an American website but every once in awhile,i will see a foreign mylotter bash America. If America bothers them so much, why are they involved with an American website in the first place?

It is very sad to hear about all the America bashing. It is always on the news or on here like you had said. I have not seen anyone here burning flags of other countries either. I think it is okay to disagree with how our President and government is handling things overseas but to bash America is very annoying, especially since our country tries to help other countries when they are in trouble.

you hit the nail right on the head when you mentioned how America is always helping other contries. We are always the first or near the first country to respond in a crisis but no one mentions that but they are so quick to look down their nose at us when we do something they don't like. They are a bunch of hypocrites as their governments aren't perfect either

Jersey, as much as I love my country. This is an embarrassing time to be an American. Our President is a joke. Even if you do not feel he is, he is to the rest of the world. His lies has caught up with him..{us} I hate the bashing as much as you do... but I hang my head at the devastation happening. As I say for our Christian State as well, I am sorry but not all of us Americans agree on this matter.

Know what really kills me about Bush,is he 's supposed to be a christian but he doesnt' mind lying at the drop of a hat. But,I am really losing my patience with this America bashing.there are a lot of things their governments do that they shouldn't be doing so to put us down when they aren't perfect is called being hypocritical.thanks for responding ,angel!

Yeah i agree with you. I have seen these type of posts earliar as well and i responded in a diplomatic way.
U know persoanlly i feel that at the present america is dominating this world so there r bound to be people who are jealous abt it and going to say against it.
Iam an indian and iam proud of it and persoanlly i feel that there r loads of indians in america either for employment or business.
I think they r employing as for their own benefit and also paying us a lot of amount. So i thinkits even stevens.
To talk abt iran , iraq and other places i think every goverment has its own faults and own limits. The indian government trets indians badly. That doesnt mean that i go against my government. So the point is we should not blame a country or a whole organisation if we have a bad time with a bunch of people.
Americans dont do it if u have a bad experiance with few people. It happens everywhere in the world and u cannot make everyone happy.
So Peace is the word.
Cheers,
Tutul

the flag burnings really hurt. but it is true that bashings are taking place not only for america but, for other countries, too. even in this country where i live, a few of my countrymen are bashing at our government and the administration to get the attention of media. then others will dip their fingers in it to get to be popular. the bad thing about these things going, is the influence it has on the mindset of the populace of our country. yes, tutul, your observations on this regard are real.

When you are the top dog in the world, the other less fortunates will always be standing ready to bash you at the slightest failing. This country is far from perfect and I really don't care if others say bad things about it. So what? I will not give up my freedoms and rights to placate and pander to the opinions of the outside world.
As far as I see the world, there are many great places and countries and people...everywhere. I have nothing bad to say to any person or country. I am not in any postion to judge anyone. It works both ways because many of the bashers have no real foundation to judge others either.
Why do I want to choose to be insulted or offended? What others say has no power over me as a person or as someone who lives in the US. Bash away...who cares? Love will always go a long way verses bashing and hate. Those that bash and spew hatred are only hurting themselves.
Mylot represent a meager part of the world. Is this site and the bashing really worth getting upset over? Not for me. There is SO many more important things to life than this site.

I'm an American and have never been ashamed. Even when Bill Clinton lied through his teeth without being able to keep his pants on. People are free to express opinions, but if you feel so strongly as to repeatedly bash America, get out. If you are living here and constantly whine, let me help you. Get out. You don't like America? So help change it. Whining does nothing but annoy. I'm tired of the America bashing as well. What I can't believe is that the feeble asssessment of this country is coming from people who make up their minds on what they see on the news! Because we all know, THEY don't lie or or embellish. They are to be trusted way more than say the people who fight to proteCt our country every single day - whether it be In Iraq or at a desk at the CIA. I'm with you Jersey, all the way.

I agree completely. We are the first country they look to for help militarily, financially, and any other form of assistance but too many countries spit on America in spite of our help. The bigger problem I have is people right here in this country bashing America or acting ashamed to be Americans. It's fine to disagree. It's fine to express an opinion, but they need to remember that the rest of us have the right to express our opinion of their hateful speech and actions.
The countries that want to bash can find aid elsewhere and the citizens that want to bash their own country are certainly free to leave and see if they can find a country anywhere else in the world that they like better.
Again, disagreeing is one thing but bashing is quite another.

You go,LJ!Isn't it amazing how they never want anything to do with America til they need military or financial help?Maybe we ought to start burning some other country's flag and see how they like it. I think they need to be examining some of the stuff their governments do before they start putting down ours. What also is making me really mad is that we have all these people calling us names, burning our flags, spitting on the flag and our troops but yet President Bush never stands up to them.I can understand that a government official needs to be diplomatic but there are times when enough is enough.I wish President Bush would say something back to them once in a while.

I haven't seen any post yet bashing American's. A few bashing Bush, and I even started one doing that myself. But If I will be looking for those post bashing us Americans. I am a very proud one at that. I believe that their are some things wrong with America, but because we are a free country we can change things without always having civil war.
In America I have the right to believe what I want to believe.
In America being a woman I have many more opportunities than other women of the world.
In America, I get a voice in what happens by using my vote.
In America, the possiblities are endless. No wonder people want to bash us. We are lucky to have been born where we have so many freedoms. I believe they are just Jealous, that they went as lucky to be born here.
I love being an American. To All of you who hate us, so what, then stay in your own country. I don't always agree with my government, but that is what being partriotic mean, to question and not always agree with your government.

I am not an hateful person, and I do not hate america - actually I wanna visit some day.. however I do not agree with the situation in Iraq and I think that is your main problem around the world right now. There are so many million people that disagree, and see that it doesnt get any better - totally the opposite.
I know that also alot of americans disagree...
Like I said - I am not a hateful person. hate is for the weak people, but i do not agree with everything that america does... Or iraq, or my own country for that matter...

Actually, people were bashing America long before the Iraq war. I don't why the government tries to appease other countries cause no matter what we do it's wrong in other country's eyes.If we try to help a country ,we are accused of interfering but if the government decides to let the country handle their problems on their own, they saywe are "indifferent".It's enough to drive me crazy.I do hope you get to visit cause it truly is beautiful.thanks for the responxe and hope you have agreat day

You go Jerseygirl!!!
My husband is currently studying in Australia and he has to deal with all kinds of people bashing America and mose of them don't know jack about us. He had to spend the first two weeks he was there explaining that not everyone wears a cowboy hat and lives in Texas.
He also gets sick of hearing everyone bash our involvement in Iraq and then ignoring their own counry's little foibles. For example, Australia recently ignored UN dictates and unilaterately went in to East Timor to defend their interests in that country, but the Australians ignore their own government's war and b*tch about ours, even though they are part of the multi-national force in Iraq.
I think the problem is that we are the bigdogs internationally and people are motivated by jealousy and hatred.

Basically it's just a case of tall poppy syndrome.
I can understand it in some ways for the following reasons
1) Some americans like to present their country or its achievements or even themselves as better than everyone else and that is annoying.
2) Then there are those who think that american foreign policy interferes with their own domestic arrangements ie the american government is poking its nose into things where it doesn't belong.
I think there are aspects of truth to that. However, if we are going to have some nations more powerful than others then I believe it should be those where there is a belief in democracy, there is tolerance and respect for people of all backgrounds.
Generally those most interested in america bashing do not respect people of other cultures and their leaders are more interested in gaining power for themselves at the expense of their own people and of world peace.

if i were an american, i would be bothered and angered, too. but this is among the price that popularity and, being an economic giant, that your country will have to pay. just think how much bashing a popular person gets and how much bad issues are being hurtled unto him. most of the issues are unfounded and untrue. this thing is what's going for your country, too. it may not make you feel any better but, at least, this realization will make your angst to rest. take the discussions you see around in stride. people have dissenting opinions. i respect and understand how you feel.

I totally agree with you on the America bashing. It's bad enough when people other than Americans bash the USA, but for Americans to do it...that's just a shame. We have it much better here in America than most other countries do. You're right about the freedom of speech, but it really infuriates me. Sometimes it's so bad that I wish those bashers would try living in another country since they hate the USA so much. We don't need others to destroy us...we'll self-destruct on our own.

I am not an American. And I don't go round bashing at each others. As much as I see such news being reported on CNN, I just couldn't be bothered by it. As with the case with Shilpa of Big Brother, the marriage of Liz Hurley, annual shrine visits by the Japanese Prime Minister, the kissing by Richard Gere, to name just a few. Yes, you are right in saying, people act as if their government is perfect. But sadly this is the world we are living in. I have even heard of my own country's politicians making unsavoury remarks to the America in regard to the 9/11 incident which I felt utter ridiculous, and was rather amazed that such words could come out of the mouth of a politician. I'm not a big fan of America, but I do acknowledged some of the great things that Americans have invented; the flying machines, Internet, computers...and such and such. Over the years I have also come to respect some of the big figures of America; Billy Graham, Madeleine Albright, and lots others that I have read about. With your country's support in providing medicinal and food aids to other war-torn country, some people would say that the America have their own ulterior motive and yet some others would applaud your country's genuine efforts. But as for me, I think I am big enough to believe what's right and what's not. My own school teacher even remarked once that western cultures is the main cause of social ill in my country, but I believe there's a great number of Americans whose ways are socially upright and morally inclined. I don't think it is fair enough to cast all balme on the America as a whole. As with the case of politics, lotsa people adore George Bush (so am I) and there is equally great number of people who hate him. You are correct in saying since they have America so much, why would they want to be associated with American stuffs like Mylot in the first place. Well, my only guess would be half the world is hypocrites. As for me I don't go round bashing at people, country or nations, talk is cheap and unless you are in the same shoes you will never understand that. Americans and non-americans alike have bashed out at Bush's administration on the war in Iraq. When people asked me that I only have 2 answers:
1) I'm not George Bush, I will never what a tough time he must have had in reaching such decision.
2) When you think you have got a better answer to tackle the world's problem, what the hell are you doing here?

people in other country bash america (not american!) with words and with few flags burning BUT when america bash people in other country they send armed forces and invades the country. this invading process causes casualties to the country's troops and innocent civiliants too.. can u blame them?
don't get me wrong, i love american. i like jlo, eminem, brad pitt, angelina jolie, clint eastwood and the list could go on and on.. i admire bill gate, donald trum, michael dell and many more.
how can i hate the american?, i use microsoft product i watch american movies. its just that you guys have elected an evil president who like to attack countries that are already unstable, weak and poor..

Bush invaded Iraq because Sadam refused to comply with the united nations. We are in Afghanistan becasue Osama bin laden and his talaban cronies killed almost 3,00 innocent people on 9/11 but people seen to have forgotten that.

hi jerseygirl,
thats the problem with mr. bush, he practices double standard. the korean did not comply, israel didn't comply, heck even america (not american!) also didn't comply with UN's instructions (and all 3 country mentioned have nuke). UN never give any green light to attack any country but bush attack anyway. WMD is just an excuse, WMD doesnt exist.
As for the 9/11, half of the world believe its a conspiracy. even some US leaders are sceptical on the true identity of the hijackers. http://www.whatreallyhappened.com this site offers stories worth reading.
now iran could be in war with US because iran has nuclear, but korean, israel and america also have nuclear too.. is america going to attack all of them?..

Every country will always be making decisions that will not appeal to everyone as a whole. From the French nuclear testing at Mururoa Atoll to the USA fighting wars in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan..... It is the nature of society to be defiant. As you have rightfully stated, people are entitled to their opinions and although I am not an American; I believe that freedom of speech is one of the core rights of your country yes? And you WILL see thousands upon thousands of Americans speaking out about other countries as it is your right to do so.
America as a whole has considerable influence on the global economy and global affairs in general. News programs anywhere in the world rarely do not have some topic regarding the US..... Based on this, it is natural that the spotlight will be on them more so than other countries. Maybe because of this the world outside of the US is far more "educated" about the USA than many other countries so therefore more opinionated.
As for using an American website? If the "America Bashers" were to boycott all things American then they would be living a life devoid of many items they are used to having! Mylot may be an "American" website in terms of where it is hosted etc but in terms of membership I would not call it American at all; most of the participants are outside of the US. This site is more like a United Nations I guess!

You know what? Americans bash other countries just as much as America is bashed. i say this as an American citizen. And you know what else? How can other countries NOT look down on America with a president like Geroge W. Bush? i mean, seriously! BNush is an effing moron who is so busy working over his father's vedetta, he's too blind to think of the actual problems in his own country. He's so war-happy he is blinded with blood and doesn't see that people are people. He is A LOT of the reason America has such a bad name.

I like that you have made that comment because I have wondered the same thing myself. I personally don't go to a place that I dislike but I don't put it down either. Every place has there good and bad qualities but there is no reason to bash anyplace. This is a excellent discussion.

USA is disliked rather like a hot sexy babe is disliked by a bunch of 13-year old boys because....we can't have her.
But such is the price of being numero uno in the world.
USA disliked in the Middle East because many US policies really DAMAGE the lives of people in the Mid East but as a collective, the Arabs secretly love the USA (they wouldn't buy so many GM SUV's otherwise)
I don't live in the USA, had a Green Card but didn't want to keep it.

I am a proud American and those of you who know me, know that I am married to a Disabled Vietnam Veteran....we tend to be very opinionated about this country, it's people. it's economy, it's education systems, it's health care issues, tratment of our troops and our Veterans, poverty and homelessness.....and all of the other things that affect our daily lives and the lives of all of the other Americans.
One of the things that I enjoy most about myLot is the diversity that is represented here.....but I do not think that any of us should be making negative statements about any country, race, culture, society, or religion....
It hurts my feelings when I see people display an "utter hatred" for my home, America......I do not understand what we, as a nation, have ever done to deserve this treatment.
I would never burn the flag of another country and do not understand what these people think they have "gained" by defacing our Nation's symbol......our glorious flag.
I have seen opinions that stated the American's butt their noses where it does not belong.....however, if assistance is needed we are the first country on the list to ask for assistance from....and we freely give it...we always have!!
I do not always agree with what the politicians are doing; but we have a systematic way to get prevent the politicians who do not live up to our expectations....we do not re-elect them; we lobby for the rights and freedoms of choices that we feel need more attention...it is a constant battle for "the right thing".
Again, I say that I am a proud American.....I would not want to live anywhere else in the world (although there are many beautiful places in the world that I would love to visit).....I have the opinion of "go forth and harm no-one" .....wish more people saw it that way too.
While I understand the reason for this discussion, I feel saddened that this subject must be discussed...instead of discussing all of the "good things" America has done for the world and will continue to do.
Blessed be!

Great response ,Tina. I don't know why our government even tries to please other countries cause nothing we do is good enough. When ever there is a disaster in the world, the us is right there helping out,but no one says anything about that.If the government tries to help a country out ,we are accused of interfereing but if the u.s. decides to let them handle it ontheir own, they call us indifferent. So what are we supposed to do? It really angers me that i even had to come up with this discussion in the first place.
