The high schooler would probably appreciate cold hard cash. If you want to do something thoughtful for the man from your church how about a nice pen set - you know those refillable ones that come in a nice case... they have them behind class at office depot. Or you can get them at Things Remembered and have them engraved. I got a pen set for my graduation and I still use them all these years later.

Money, jewelry, gift cards. When I graduated someone got me a really nice beach towel, that was a good gift. If the person will be moving into their own place, things for the home is always nice. Sheets, towels, dishes things like that. If the person collects certain things, you could add to their collection. What kinds of stuff do they like to do? If they are into sports of have a favorite team, you can get something pertaining to that. If you know their favorite perfume or cologne. I have always liked getting lottery tickets too.
