Do you clean your PC once in a while? And i dont mean tune up utilities,I mean actually opening up the cpu and cleaning it off the dust that has settled inside the cabinet. And does it affect the performance of the PC if dust is allowed to settle inside the Cpu

I clean my PC once a month, some time I just clean inside my PC with a small brush. And sometimes I take a part all the component that intact like VGA, memory, processor, hard drives, etc. Consider that I'm using a transparant case. By cleaning your PC can extend the life of the component itself b'coz you may be abble to avoid overheating of your PC such as VGA/CPU.

Sure thing I do. When I am bored or have nothing to do, I will run some utilities or scans.
But oh, you are asking about a *physical* cleanup? Of course not! :P

Yes, 3 or 4 times a year, I open the case and clean and inspect the machine. There is a constant, low-level vibration when the computer's fan is running, and over time this can cause something called socket creep. This is when the various devices plugged into the motherboard start to rise out of their sockets. This creeping, along with accumulated dust, can negatively impact performance. In extreme cases, it can cause failure. All you have to do is take a minvac or a can of compressed air, and suck or blow the dust away. With canned air, be sure to hold the can absolutely upright when using it, or the propellant will come out at a very chilly -100 degrees f or so, instant deep frostbite if it hits your skin!
Whenever you open your case, the machine should be turned off but plugged in. This provides grounding in case of static electricity. The number one way that home users fry their machines is static electricity, so make sure you don't shuffle your feet or slide around on a chair with the case open! Touch a metal surface (like the chassis) to discharge any static you may have before you touch the electronics!
You should also check all the power connections inside, make sure they are plugged in tight. Also, clean the fan enclosure off from the outside of the machine weekly. This protects from overheating.

I have only cleaned my pc once or twice for the entire six or seven years i have had it. I dont think it has an impact on how well your pc performs but its not nice to have it full with dust.
