Diet Coke Plus

After church today I stopped by our nearest Walgreens to pick up a six pack of bottled water. Because I do have an occasional soda I thought I'd get a Cherry Coke. When I reached in the fridge to grab one, I realized there was a new version of pop I had never seen before. Diet Coke Plus. So I got one because my mom likes Diet Coke and I thought I'd let her try it out. Because it was 2 for one sale I got one for me too. I took it home and drank it and it tasted exactly like regular Diet Coke. Apparently though, this diet Coke contains magnesium and 15% of our daily value of a couple B vitamins.
So now there is an improvement to a DIET soda? It's diet pop, and they have made it healthier. That's nice and all, but I'm surprised. Is the rise in green tea and white tea getting to cola companies? There is already Diet Coke Zero, and Caffeine free Diet Coke. Is it weird that they are trying to make a beverage healthier, when they've tried so hard already? I mean, soda ultimately isn't good for any of us on a regular basis. Is this an attempt to keep us away from the now healthier beverage choices? It used to be all there was for healthy or diet drinks were Tab, Fresca, water and not many people liked those options. Now healthy drinks have become appealing.
So what do you think? This isn't a change the world discussion, but I'm curious. Has anyone else tried it? Have you seen another product altered heavily to be more healthy when circumstances really didn't call for it?

Well I haven't tried it mostly because I can't drink Deit Coke, they use Splenda and it gives me migraines. However even if I could drink it I doubt I would try it. I drink a lot of pop on a daily basis so I could just see what getting all that magnesium and vitamin B's would do to me on a daily basis. Vitamin B's do help speed up the metabolism but in the process can make you feel warmer, so be warned on that. Also if you take a multivitamine already adding that amount on top of it might not be the best idea in the world.
I think it's more likely they are doing this because they are afraid that pop might be next on the list to be banned. Many schools right now you cannot buy it nor can the students bring it in from home to drink on their lunch hour. However if they make it "healthy" that might be changed. I'm sure that is what they are trying to do so that way they don't lose money.

I never thought of that, about the school disputes with healthier snack and drinks. That is a good point. This may give them an 'in'. As for me, I never depend on drinks to get my healthy doses of vitamins. I wish I could, but you just never can be sure how much you're getting. I take a multi vitmain and a good dose of Vitamin C every day.
Also, I'm not sure what it available exactly where you are, but here we can buy Diet Coke and also Diet Coke with Splenda. They have both, and the one with Splenda will say it right on the label. Splenda tends to make me sick, so I'm careful about digesting any of it. : )

Well sadly diet coke's version of aspertame did the same thing to me. It had to be one of the fillers they used for it but I have that problem with some of the aspertames. I can't use sacchrine either nor Splenda. I'm kind of out of luck when it comes to diet drinks :(

Aspertame, I don't know if I spelled that right, has been linked to problems like memory loss or unwanted movements of the muscleS, so it's good that you stay away from it anyway. I mean, I know these are legit studies people have done, but it hasn't stopped me from drinking the soda. I guess it feels like such a long shot. And could be, I don't think any more health problems will faze me. LOL

Naturally Coke has noticed an increase in healthier drinks. Coke was to be the drink supplier for any person's thirst. They do have their own brand of bottled water. Disani is a Coke brand. I think they just want to maintain or increase their market share. The more people they can get to use their products the better for them.

Since I am not a soda drinker due to the fact that it is carbonated, I guess it's great that soda company is moving in to promote healthy living. I have seen a lot of products nowadays are shifting their marketing strategy towards the health concious group and I guess it's working. I think people now are more aware of what they eat and manufactureres are really going in to make products that are catered to the new generation eaters and drinkers. Otherwise, they'll lose out. In my opinion, it's great that companies are altering their products. If its for the better, why not..... Have a great day!! :

First of all, I do not like Coke products. I like Pepsi. Secondly, I do not like diet sodas. They are very unhealthy. Adding vitamins will not make them better to drink. I can take vitamins if I want. I have heard of this product, but I will not buy it.

I don't think it is relly the green tea thing thats getting to the pop companies it is the high sales of energy drinks. It is the in thing now my niece says thats all the kids drinks in high school now. They are full of vitamins and energy boosters I buy about 10-20 cans myself a month of energy drinks. They help me with my depression. I buy one called Rip it 93 cents a can. So I think that the pop companies want a little more of the action alot of them have made some energy drinks already. Mt dew has one, I tried it and didn't like it to me it tasted like green lemon and lime kool aid and I hate lemon and lime kool aid. Well It is good that they are trying to make the pop more healthy now days I will have to check it out becuase diet coke and dr.pepper are the only 2 diet pops I will even drink. Thanks for the info I appreciate.

It just seems to be the way the world is going. Look at how McDonalds now have a healthier menu, and the way 7up and sprite have zero cal drinks...give me my 'bad' food anyday!..even though I don't drink fizzy drinks anyways, but if I did, I would!

I personally dont like the taste of diet pop. It just tastes heavy and has a (how do I say it?) artificial taste about it. I love Coke and Cherry Coke but I cant drink diet of any kind.

If it is indeed healthier for us than Coke Zero, Pepsi Max and Diet Coke then that can be nothing but a good thing. I doubt ti will come over here though, the UK seems to the the last place companies want to try new things.
You mention Tab and that brough back some memories...in the 90's we had a soda called Tab Clear (produce by The Coca Cola Company) that was totally sugar free and I loved it, but it seemed to vanish all of a sudden, which was a real pity...man, what I'd do for an ice cold glass of Tab Clear right now....

I haven't actually seen this new Diet Coke Plus (but then again it might not be available in the UK yet). Diet Coke itself is pretty perfect tasting to me already but I'm not adverse to trying a new diet drink. I don't drink regular Coke at all as I've only drank diet colas for 20 years or so now. Not sure that I drink flavoured drinks for the health benefits - as my husband always says the healthiest drink is WATER so I try to drink as much of that as possible but I do love my Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi or Pepsi Max so I'm sure this new one won't harm me. As for products being altered for the benefit of our healthy I'm not usually a pessimist but I think marketing departments of organisations like to play on our emotions and fears when it comes to eating and drinking more healthily which helps us spend more of our money generally :)

I haven't tried it yet because it didn't sound very appealing. But now that you have described it to me I may give it a try. I might like it after all. I drink way too many sodas and not enough water.

I've seen it,but I havent tried it. I think 7-up was the first soda to add vitamins and minerals to soda. It's all about making money. They think this will sell more pop to people who are trying to become more health consious. It's all about making a buck. I try to drink mainly water I limit myself to one soda a day or less.

Never heard of diet coke plus or pepsi clear, but I dun think that soda, diet or otherwise could be made healthier. I like to indulge in pepsi every now and then but can't stand diet stuff, Makes me want to gag. Why cant they use something like xylitol that leaves no aftertaste and is v good for ur teeth as a sugar alternative anyway?
