Can my nine month old baby have what the rest of the family is having?

My baby is already eating solid foods at this age but is only limited to cereals, potatoes, carrots, eggs and rice. I'm just curious if you also give your child this age what the rest of the family is eating, like if there's an ice cream for dessert, do you give your child a little or if there is a pizza on the table do you let the child eat a little?

Hi. My son turned out to be allergic to cow's milk and wheat so we do not do that because those are things that may be found in some foods, but we're not aware of it. For example, do you know that hotdog contains milk? Pizza has cheese (which is a dairy product) and the crust (which is made of wheat flour). What we do is introduce simple foods one at a time for 5 days, then see how he would react to it. If he doesn't react to it, we add it to his repertoire. He's now 19 months old and eats a lot, but I still don't dare give him food which have "unknown" ingredients and just stick to the basics. My son's allergologist says that the best way to manage childhood allergies is not to let him come in contact with those allergens and maybe he will outgrow it by 2 years old (we'll retest by then). If he gets exposed, he will have a hard time outgrowing it.
Now, if your son hasn't had allergies, maybe it's not so much of an issue.

There's no reason she cant try a few things, my daughter tries a bit of everything & it's been this way since she was about 8 months old.
She eats the base of the pizza so usually only the base with some tomato sauce & a little ham. She enjoys ice cream but never more than a spoonful or 2, i usually share most of my dinner with my daughter - not off my plate as such but i cut a little of my dinner off & put it in to bowl of her own.
My daughter also has a little of the apple out of an apple pie, or i just give her one of her own fruit sticks when we have dessert & she's happy with that!
Good luck & just try a few different things & see how he/she goes with what you're eating!

I always fed my chilren the same thing we were eating. You do have to be careful not to feed him anything too spicy and make sure the food is cut into small pieces. I would like to caution you specifically about grapes, nuts and hot dogs which are choking hazards. You should also not feed honey to a child under one year of age. I have a food chopper(from Bed,Bath and Beyond $20.00) that I use to chop the food into small pieces.

i dont have any kids, so im basing my opinion on my nieces, friends kids and the children i babysit and they all get feed things off the table and one of them is only 8 months old. i wouldnt worry to much at the moment with the ice cream or sweets as much maybe some other biscuits. and no chilli or spicy foods that some people have. maybe take some of the food off the pizza before giving to the child (just end up being smaller mouth fulls)

It depends. I choose not to give her candies or other sweets yet. Its best to give her nutritious foods which are high in protein and iron. Just ensure that the food you are giving can be chewed and digested easily by your baby. Remember to give lots of fluids especially during the hot weather.

Yes definately. Just beware of high allergy foods like strawberries, nuts, citrus fruits, egg whites, etc.
My son is 10 months old and pretty much eats what we eat (in small peices of course). We also DO NOT feed him anything spicy or too sugary/salty.

My toddler is allergic to cow's milk so I make sure that whatever we are having that has cheese or milk ingredients on it..she will not have. But the rest of the food is fine as long as the servings are quite small and they got teeth to chew it.

My son had difficulty with dairy products when he was that age - but I gave him everything else..he loved hot chicken wings ( yes - hot ones!) and most other foods that we ate.
I made 90% of his baby food, by taking our regular meals and tossing a bit in a mini-food processor. It was healthier and cheaper.
He grew up just fine and healthy. No allergies and no weight problems.

That would be fine giving your son just very small amount of what you eat. It's fun introducing him to new things especially foods. Just remember to be extra careful with the foods that you are sharing with your baby, please avoid softdrinks :), too acidic and not healthy. I suggest if you want your baby to have a taste on the foods that you eat, better make it the healthy ones. You know little things done can become a habit.

i think you can only allow them to taste it so that their taste buds will be better develop.

I would give them a few bites of what we are having providing they can chew it but remember babys stomaches are not like adults, they cant handle all the spices and things in the food that adults eat,why are people in such a big hurry to have them eat table food? baby food is made expecially for there needs with out all the spices and addatives added.

My baby boy is already 8 months going 9, he is already eating a lot of things we adult eat, from fish, beef or chicken, we sometimes give him ice cream or any cold fruit drinks to relieve his gums because he is having his teeth coming out, we do also give him pizza but only the bread ,my baby pediatrician told us it is good that he love to eat anything than means he has good appetite, dont hesitate to let your baby try anything just ask your pedia about the food that have allergic reaction.Your baby is starting to learn and trying to immitate we adult do.

This is about the time when I started experimenting more with my daughters food. I would say as long as she can chew and not have to worry about her choking go ahead and let her try new things. Just watch how much sugar she gets and how spicy things are. You wouldn't want her to get an upset tummy. But yeah I think this is a good age to introduce more foods.

I always gave my baby food from the table from the time they came home. The doctors said the reason they didn't want them to eat from the table was becouse of weight issues. They didn't want them to be over weight. None of my kids are over weight. If anything they may be a little underweight.
