When The Weather Gets Too Hot

Philippines
April 22, 2007 10:49pm CST
When the temperature is much too hot for me, I take a long, long bath. From there, I open all the doors and windows and get the curtains to the sides. Then get the electric fans going and do mylot when it is possible. At most times, there are so many tasks in the house which needs to be done fast. Are there better ways to cope with the heat? How do you do it? It is very hot in my country right now.

well, i could suggest you better eat and drink halo-halo, ice candy, shake etc. or anything that has an ice mix in it. In our country, this product in very sellable this summer. For me it is perfect time to go swimming or having vacation in provinces.

I'll consider cold fruit juices, lextoper. I am already overweight. However, we love all those food items at home. Swimming... As for swimming that is a perfect thing to do.

Same here man, I never thought that these season would be my hottest. Not to forget that our ceiling is way too low, and we simply can't stand the heat during mid-afternoons. Most of the times, I water the pavement, to let the heat evaporate and be replaced by the cool breezy feeling. I just keep it from time to time, and most of the times I put water that was previously been used. Like after washing the laundry or those which were used after rinsing the plates we used, this helps me conserve water and use it more wisely.

That's the trouble with very low ceiling, raijin. It is because the movement of the air has been so restricted, it cannot effectively revolve around the room. Okay, we will get our surroundings wet early mornings and afternoons. That is a good idea, too.

Hello, missdragon. Welcome to mylot. Keep on responding to discussions and you will see your points go up. Start posting one or two of your own a day and, you will see that it will be easy to reach a 100 mark. Happy mylotting and good luck. I thought that springtime is the best time of the year. Was it a Julie Andrews song which said so? Well, don't take my word to heart, I don't know much about your country. In fact, I used to think that it is a land where the weather is perfect because, you grow beautiful flowers over there.

It is always hot where I live in the desert in the USA. I keep the air conditioners turned up to keep the house cool. I don't go outside, unless I must.

How hot does it get there? I love it when it gets to about 80 degrees here. We get alot of really cold weather and snow here. It is just now starting to warm up. It got to about 60 today but it is really cooling down fast and supposed to rain again. We are fortunate enough to have central air conditioneer. So the whole house stays at the same temperatures. I remember having to use a fan to cool the house down. We found that if you put a wet cold wash cloth on the fan, it will blow cooler air. Just lay it on the back of the fan and turn on the fan. The pull of the fan will hold the washcloth in place. Hope this works for you.

the heat gets to as much as 34 degrees celsius, right now, i don't know the equivalent of it in fahrenheit. it is very hot if we consider that two men around their 60's already suffered from heatstroke and farms around here gets burning. it must be nice to be living in a comfortable home provided with a centralized airconditioning system such as the one you have. I'll consider your tip about using a wet cloth on the fan and using some cold water in a basin which a teacher in high school taught me.

I could imagine how hot it is in the Philippines now. I remember going home to the province in summer, laying lazily in a hammock under the big, mango tree. That's what we do then when it's too hot to stay inside the house. But here, we just head off to the beach when it gets unbearably hot. It's not practical to stay indoors because we'll just consume a lot of power due to fans, aircon, blender for shake, all working at the same time. The beach and air outside is free! Lol! :p

the idea of a hammock under a mango tree is a sell out here until now, how right of you about that. and the beaches are full in the early mornings and the late afternoons.

yes, the swimming pool and the beaches are great at this time of the year. then bathe, bathe and bathe. then sip cool fruit juices at the pool or in the beach. that will be nice.

yeah its summer. and its really hot, i also take a long bathe and then id just stay inside my room and open the aircon to cool down my room. its hard to do some work at this season cause where ever you are you can feel the heat of the sun. though sweating is not that bad but still it gives you the unease feeling. so i do my household chores at afternoon time like when then surroundings are a bit cool. drink plenty of cold water or juice it will somehow help you ease the heat of surroundings and wear some loose clothes.

In my country its raining and not hot here. You need to buy an AC and in such times that u feel hot , try to to eat ice cream and have a cool shower. Learn to sit in an open field to get fresh air. ezynex

yes, ezynex, you can be sure that i will take your tips to heart. it is good to have the rains when it falls like it used to years ago. a few hours each night enough to drench the soil. we used to wake up to each morning with a friendly temperature which rules the whole day. it is so different these days. when it rains, it is raining cats and dogs and so the floods come, and when it's hot, it is too much that we hear of people getting the heatstroke.

I too am facing with the same kind of problem. We actually have 5-6hrs of load-sheding in our area which is very very breath taking so we can't do it without invertors but still during that time I too tackle it with doing some or the other kind of work which makes me buzy and I easily forgets about the heat and hot climate...

this is the first time i have encountered somebody who says that keeping busy makes one forget the heat and the hot climate. it is the other way around for me and for the most of us in my country. the more we work, the more we get reminded how hot it is. the sweat gets coming out profusely and thus, after resting awhile, we bathe. some of us here bathe 3 or more times a day when the heat gets to be this much.

in india the wheather is already too hot and likely to sore high in coming weeks. i do the chores as usual and then take a shower and get into my room and stand in front the AC. but while i am doing the tasks i keep sipping chilled water or juice and it helped me from too much sweating. you could try that.

I like air conditioning, we've already got it going, but come August it is stiffling without it. However, back when I was younger & living in a rent house without it, to clean I'd wet down a long sleeved shirt & turn on the fans & clean. Re-wetting the shirt if it dried out. I also used to go to a church without ac, my friend & I used to take wet hand towels & put them around our necks (and mop our faces as needed.) I don't know how the priests did it in their robes.

you have a gift of seeing the lighter side of things elicbxn. it is so nice of you hinting at the priests difficulty coping with the heat, and here we are, the ones complaining when in fact, the priests have a better reason to be complaining.

yes, maril, it is too hot in here. the temperature reaches 34 degrees celsius at peak heat. it is good that my yard is full of trees and plants, we don't feel the scorching heat if we stay home. however, we can still feel the excessive heat and we really get affected. our consumption of cold foods has gone up. cold fruit juices are fine in helping us cope, too. it is good that you are having good and friendly weather over there.

I find that keeping my curtains, windows and doors closed helps. I keep my fans running constantly. i find that this helps to keep the house cooler in the long run. i take cooler showers and when outside tend to stay in the shade. A friend of mine opens the fridge occasionally and blows the cool air with a fan, I can't see that helping much - just brings up the electric. where i live the summer sun beats down on the backside of my house all day long - my bedroom temp has reached 38 degrees (im in Canada) and thats HOT for us here. air condioners work but again bring up the electric bill.
• Philippines

yes, cooler showers help a lot. the fans are running 24 hours in the house also. we don't use to do this. then plenty of water and natural fruit juices will also help. so, it is also hot in canada this time. i thought that you have a cool climate over there throughout the year, kodie.
