which is more important in life, being honest in what you say, or being believed in? sometimes regardless of our being honest, we're still not believed. . and to stop the discussion you just have to tell what is expected of you to say. . . i'm not saying that that should be the case, i'm just asking mylot posters, do you do the latter or do you really always just be honest?

I think being honest is the most important thing in in life, I see a lot of people and even my friends who say little things that is not eactly the truth then in a little time say something that disproves what they said in the first place as they say if you are going to tell lies or even little fibs you have to have a good memory or you are going to be made to look like a lier, as someone wisely said to me years ago if you stick with the truth you will be fine as the truth never changes...and being one that does not have a good memory it is in my best interest to stick with the truth... :)

there was an episode in star trek, with patrick stewart as captain, where he advised a crew member to just always tell the truth with a pending invasion of their ship. . . at the crucial time, the crew member told the truth but the enemy doubted her and reacted differently. . and that saved the lives of the crew of enterprise. . . how would you guys feel if in spite of telling the truth you still are not believed??

I believe in being as honest as I can. I think that if you maintain a policy of being honest people will not tend to disbelieve you because, if they have known you for a while they will know that they can have trust in what you say. If people are going to assume that you are not being honest, when you are and always have been then it actually says more about them than about you and why should you compromise your own integrity just because of them? If nothing else you have to put a lot more effort into lying than in telling the truth because you have to invent something and then remember what it was that you said and who you said it to. Despite that I will also admit that it can help social situations to tell white lies at times e.g. I wouldn't go to a wedding and tell the bride I hate her dress and if she asked me I might say something like I've never see anything like it, or it's a lovely colour, or has nice beading or similar.
