Now a days because of hypertension and diabetis many a people are keeping check on their salt and Sugar intake! They say that it is always better to take precautions as prevention is better than cure!
Though the Doctors have two schools of thoughts regarding Salt intake, one school feels that it is the sodium in the salt which increases the Bp thats why its consumption has to be reduced! On the other hand Doctors with another school of thoughts say that if we consume citrous fruits likes rapes and Oranges then the salt consumed can be compensated by the pottassium being consumed in the form of fruits as mentuioned above!
For me though I am an hypertensive I never restricted salt consumption but I am regularly on my Blood Pressure medication which I take religiously brfore going to bed and I find My blood pressure more or less normal to my age! Similarly I am not a diabetic and hense I have not restricted the intake of Sugar sofar! Though I don't like to have too much of sweet dishes right from thre begining I always have good amount of Sugar in my tea and I conmsume lot of tea per day!
How about you? Do you have any control on your salt and Sugar intake! Is it suggested by your Doctor or you are doing it by your self ? Please respond! Thanks!

I watch how much sugar I eat, but probably not as much as I should. I don't drink sugary drinks like fruit juice with additives and sodas, so the only 'bad' sugar I get is from the occasional dessert, but I don't keep track of salt at all. I probably should because of high blood pressure, which actually runs in my family, but I am fond of salty foods so I don't really limit my intake. I suppose I must start to soon so I don't become ill.

Yeah i do have control over the salt and sugar intake. I was never suggested by any doctor to control the intake but i know prevention is better than cure so i just keep my self alarmed. I consume less salt as well as less sugar so as to avoid any future problems.

Yes prevention is better than going for medications later on.

i dot agree with taking inorgainc salt and sugar our body doenst nee inorganic substances our body needs only organic substances which can be availed through plants .if we can use inorganic salt and other chemicals then we should have been able to eat them directly from soil,in fact our body rejects all inorgainc salts as much as possible .also taking salt with starch food causes the digestion of starchy foods becomes difficult.if you cook rice you can notice that while at the time of cooking rice if you put salt or sugar the rice to cook becomes delay ,like that if you take salt along with your food that will prevent digestion.avoid salt and sugar

I don't use salt or pepper in my food and never have. I don't cook with it at all or add it to my food after I have it in front of me. I like the taste of my food without so I get the natural flavor of food. Sugar on the other hand I love. I will douse my ceareal with sugar and tea is the same thing. I love sugar.

no doubt prevention is always better than cure, but body constitution and resistance levels differ from person to person. speaking of me, my salt intake is very rational and keep within limits but i doubt whether it would guarantee me against high or low blood pressures. and sweets/sugar, hmm i just cant cant stay away from them daily though i dont eat too much. in case a doctor should suggest later in life i would restrict or abstain the intake of salt or sugar.

I try to take intake in controlled measure. Yet I sometimes have a liking for more sweet things. So that is something I need to keep in check.
