what Tips do u follow for maintaning personal computers?

I myself own laptop...and i work on it for long hours... software wise i usually download antivirus every week to have latest update then i check my disc,defragment it etc ,hardware wise i dust it frequently,will place my laptop in a manner so tht it doesnt gets heated up quickly,i need some tips regarding battery backup,and about disc space utility... guys help me out
