Do you think that fast food may be responsible for obesity problems in people? I remember 15 years a go there were no really obese people in my native country (Venezuela). However, after fast food chains arrive (no I am not saying names), and after 10 years, there is an obesity issue in the population. I know, 10 years have passed, and people get older and fatter, but even in young people and kids the obesity problem/issue exists. Your opinion/comment is appreciated. Thanks

I have short time ago read an article - I still search it - which blames fast food and the sweet (mainly brown) frizzy soft drinks as main reason for obesity of children and young people. It was an American study. Here in Germany it is the same. So I think, one must really watch out to not consume too much fast food, specially when the lifestyle otherwise tends to less moving in addition. Fast Food usually contains more calories and less vitamins. The calories must be burned, but with less vitality persons tend to relax rather than move. This is a viscious circle which leads to obesity.

Fast food is just one thing that adds to the problem. It is certainly not the entire problem. I know of many people who eat fast food all of the time and have no problems with obesity. I also know people who never eat fast foods who are obese. Another problem I see these days is that we do not seem to be as active as we once were. When I was a child, we ran around and played outside, regardless of the weather. If it rained, we put on our raincoats and went out anyway. We played outside in the snow. These days, it seems the activity level has dropped drastically. Children want to sit and watch TV, play games or read rather than go outside and play. Children and adults alike need to get more exercise into their lives as well as eating a healthy diet in order to help combat the obesity issue. It cannot be blamed on any one thing.

No, I have not seen it, and I will not say that fast food does not contribute to the problem. I agree that too much fast food is not a good thing and definitely should be eaten in moderation. All I am saying is that it is not the entire problem. There is a lot more to it than that.

I believe that fast food is one of the causes of obesity. It is for the most part non-nutritional, addictive and certainly contributes to heart disease and high blood pressure. It is high and sugar and salt as well as greasy. Too bad that much of it is appealing to so many people. Fast food tastes good to many people and is very convenient. That is the greatest detriment of all.

thanks for your answer. i also believe junk foos is part of the problem. kids are lured to eating at mcdonalds because they had happy times when they were kids, remember where kids go for entertaining , at Mcdonalds, for a birthday party at mcdonalds so you as kid will associate Mcdonalds with happines and there is the clown....

We should not completely blame fast food for Obesity. Along with these joints each individual and their eating habit is also reponsible for this issue .

I can relate to visting a home country and out of nowhere its become Westernized!!!! i went back to thailand 10 years ago and to my disbelief- they had McDonald's, Roy Rogers/Hardees, a Friendly's restuarant...Fatty American restuarants and a majority of Thai people are slim so I wasn't too happy to see this trend happening- I also think that you can't just blame the food, its daily habits that contribute too, like too much TV watching and not enough exercising!!

I don't think that fast food is responsible for obesity. I think that people eating fast food irresponsibly are directly responsible for their own obesity. People have as much a right to eat fast food as they have a right to go to the gym once in a while and burn that fat. I personally love McDonalds and Jack in the Box but I also have the sense of responsibility to be active and exercise enough to not get fat. I hope the fat people of the world will lay off the silly blame game, get off their butts and exercise along with eating responsibly one day.

I recommend uou watch the video Supersize me. It is very interesting how a regular guy eating McDonalds food for 30 days get fat, sick and completely destroyed. I know that we have to make decisions but when a company uses publicity to record in your mid from chilhood that you have to ealt at McDonalds I think they have some responsability. Thanks

i thinks thats one factor but its peoples choice to eat what they want and they just dont care about what and how they will look until they found themselves look like elephant.
