Buying and Selling monkeys

I just wanted to know if buying monkeys is legal? i thought it was untill i was in a chat room yesterday and someone sent a message asking if anyone knows anyone who is selling monkeys. so i asked and someone said that you can buy certain breeds. I have always wanted a monkey but i know it would be cruel to keep one as a pet and i always though it was illigal in the UK. anyone shed some light on this for me ?

monkeys are somewhat naughty ....... i think u cant keep it as a pet in the home ...

I don't know about the UK, whether or not it is legal. In Nicaragua where I live, I occasionally see someone trying to sell monkeys. I think they are cute but too mischievious for me to deal with.

I have no idea about selling monkey is illegal or not.However i did see some body keep monkey as pet and they are doing pretty good in take care of the monkey.

Some religion in India worships monkeys, I think those are the kinds that are illegal to sell. I think some monkeys are legal to sell as pets and some others are not. The Philippine Tarsier is endangered specie and is illegal to sell.

I wanna have a monkey! I guess the would be a pain the bum though.. ripping down stuff from the walls and destroying your tv set.

In the Philippines, it is legal. Just make sure you have all the papers to prove that it will be taken cared of. Used to have one when I was 9 yrs. old and we kept "ikee" (my monkey's name) for more than 8 years. She was given as a birthday present and she was just 2 month old then. We trained her and took care of her like a little baby so she grew up tamed.

I know you posted this a while ago, and I'm not sure about the UK, but I saw a show in the US about a lady who has all these monkeys. She had to have special training and all sorts of stuff to have the monkeys. They have their own rooms (converted of course for the likes of a monkey) with their own enclosed area from their rooms (on the second floor) to go outside and play. She was constantly making food for the monkeys (they eat better food than I do). It was a lot of work!
