Have you ever been fired? Or laid-off?

I have been very lucky in that I have never been fired from a job. However, there is some suspicious activity going on at my office. Many of us feel like they are trying to fire us, or force us out of the company. I didn't think I was one of them until friday... and I am upset about it. So I have to talk to my boss about it today, and I am so close to just wanting to QUIT!

Indeedy do.
I worked as waiter part time in one of the biggest hotels in my city and they was a bit snobby but preferred "girls" instead of lads doing the work. Also the fact that I did my work, not allowing people to "tell me" what to do, when the stuff being told wasn't in my duties.
All added up and when the secondary chief decided he'd attempt to take his poor cooking out on me. It was the last strew, I had a go at him and this sailed the deal.
I actually had people on my side that I was in the "right" and I was unfairly dismissed. which turned in a small amount but I would happily see the hotel go to ruins.

I'm sorry that happened to you Joey. No matter how wrong the boss is sometimes, because he's the boss, he gets to be "right" which is what I am going through right now too!

Yes, I was fired from my job after 5 years working. It was a bad experience. However, it was for the better, I got a better job!

Mostly job here is now contractual. so i guess so far what i have experience is being finished contract and just a year ago i decided to voluntarily resigned on my previous job because i could no longer handle the pressure and just recently again i voluntarily resigned on my latest job because the owner of the company is too much abusive and didnt pay well. Luckily also,I have never tried being fire out from any of my previous job.

I have never been to a full time job but on all the part time jobs that I have done my record has been nice and I always have a good understanding with my boss (somehow I always manage it with out trying for it too hard) which always help.

I have experienced both unfortunately! I was laid off from a job about 7 years ago because the girl that I replaced was moving back and was best friends with the office manager. I can 't prove it but I know that was the reason. Then 4 years ago I was fired from my last job because I was unable to return to work after having given birth to my son. I had made an agreement to return to work before my maternity leave was up because I could not afford to take the time off. Well I went to work about a week after my son was born and worked about two weeks until my babysitter quit on me and I called my boss one day to tell him I had no sitter and he fired me. But when I went to get my last check he said that I had quit and he had already paid me in advance for some vacation time.

Wow, that actually sounds like discrimination and it sounds illegal! What a horrible boss!
