Do You Like Running?

For me, it's not as much a matter of liking it of having to do it. Sharks have to swim, and I have to run. Maybe I've got restless leg syndrome, but running seems to help my need to move my legs that any pill probably would. It's healthier, too. I used to run competitive distance, and I wouldn't win races but I didn't embarrass myself either. Now most of my running is one trip around my block, which is about one kilometer.

I've always loved running! Up until about 5 years ago, I used to be able to do 2 miles. I jogged all the time, and felt a whole lot better. I had to give it up after chemotherapy treatments weakened the veins in my legs, but I still miss doing it the way I used to, and settle for a little 'sprint' here and there. When you run, I believe you do get that 'runners high' that so many runners talk about. You feel more alive, more vibrant, and more able to do all kinds of things. At least you're still running, even if it isn't the same distance that you used to do. I never won races either, but I always felt a sense of accomplishment anyways. For me, running was never something I HAD to do, but rather I just liked to do it because I felt in tip-top shape when I did. It also helped relieve stress, and help with better breathing. Good thread!

That's too bad about the chemo, but I'm sure that it beats the alternative. I actually ran a 5k race a couple of weeks ago, and although I wasn't as fast as I used to be it still felt good to finish the race without having to walk and in less than 23 minutes.

Good for you running in the 5K! That's what I mean, it doesn't matter if we've gotten slower, we still feel the sense of accomplishment. Heck, anymore, I'm just glad if I can jog across the lawn...even if I do have to sit down for a minute afterwards, lol. I see you're new here to myLot Ethan. Hope you're enjoying having fun with it. It takes a while in the beginning to get going, but after a while you'll find yourself commenting on all kinds of things. Just join in...it's fun!

I think I am starting to get the hang of it...I've been here basically nonstop for a couple of hours. I was told that this place is addictive before I got here, and it's true.

I'm a walker instead of a runner. Even as a child I never enjoyed running. But I do power walk - like about 5 miles a day. I read your running post on BF about running around the block. I'm totally impressed that you can do a kilometer in 3 minutes. I can walk a mile in 13 minutes but I generally try to keep it down to 15 minutes - it's a better fat burning walk that way.
