What makes a discussion, a good discussion?

Maybe something relevant to all, I mean something that will catch the attention of others. Here in mylot what I have noticed is that a good topic does not mean you will have many responses. I have seen that simple and common discussion or topic about everyday life are the one who had many responses. And you're right, maybe if you will have many friends here in mylot, will also corresponds to many responses.

For me it has to give enough information in the discussion to give me something to respond with. One line discussions do not give you anything to sink your teath into. I need one that encourages good, indepth and long responses. I like ones that make me think and consider before responding. Yes now and then the fluff is nice too. Ones that encourage long responses but don't require a lot of thinking. The ones that might deal with movie types. That is usually a no-brainer type that I can give a detailed response to without too much thinking.

Well, to me, a Good discussion would be one that really features on a Topic or discussion that is News worthy, and draws a lot of attention, and demand from others. As for the Global part, a lot of times that will help get more Responses sometimes, but then it depends on what it is on. When you can start a Discussion that everyone can Relate too no matter where you are from, and is unique and makes one think about how they want to respond on here, then that is considered a Good discussion. As for a Discussion hitting the Top list, I am not really sure what keeps it on top. I have a lot of Friends but that does not always seem to help me. So sometimes I feel it is the Subject that brings the attention and keeps an item on top. Overall, you just need to experiment some and find out what works best for you, and go from there.

I think most people have given some of the best answers to your question here, so I'll just add some of what I know is within what mylot requires us to do so. I think discussions should be well-written, in good manner, informative, interesting and thought-provoking too. It should not be a spam, a copy from other sites, an abuse or an that is not contributive in this community. All in all, it should be based within mylot's guidelines, FAQ's, policies and regulations. That is what I think a discussion, can be considered a good one.

Million dollar question my friend. I wish I knew the answer. I can say this - what makes a good discussion good varies by member. I guess for me I would say a discussion is good if there is some dialouge in it and it remains civil.
