I think that something should be done these prices have gotten out of hand I think it is price gouging! Prices should not be this high and they are talking 4 dollars a gallon! It should not be over 2.! We have so much fuel here and I know that our gas does not come from overseas! I know this from working in a gas station and talking to a person who worked on an oil field in texas!

I know the prices of gas here in South Carolina is $2.69 at one station I drove by and that is down from the weekend. We need to get the refineries up to date and some new ones. We had one in Scottsbluff Nebraska that was torn down a few years ago. The environmentalists need to back off. The cattle give off more greenhouse gas emissions, than do cars.

what maddens me is all these oil companies are making record profits at the pri ce of the customers paying such high prices why cant they pass on some of those profits to us and lower the prices!

The irony here is it's not so much about supply and demand.
The real problem is that as much oil as we do have, we actually can't pump it out much faster.
We are NOT running out of oil at ALL. The truth is, we're just getting to a point where we are using it faster than we can possibly take it out of the ground. That's why the US is constantly looking for more oil. It's not just about the reserves, it's about the surface area.
Also it's in high demand because if you were to coat the entire planet in solar panels, we still would not have enough energy to replace oil.

Yeah. But, on the good side, there are a lot of safer cars out there nowadays that get great gas mileage. The problem is that so many people chose to buy the big gas guzzlers. I don't feel sorry for those people. I feel sorry for those who are already driving small cars and have to have them for work who have to pay these prices. Some of these poor people can't live close to work, too, because housing is also expensive.
And, of course, with every gas price discussion here, there's always someone overseas that says that we here, in the United States are whiners because their gas prices are so much higher. Well, most of those countries are so small that you can drive across them in a day. And, I don't think they rely on interstate trucking to bring food to the grocery store as much as we do here. So, when gas prices go up here, everything else goes up much more, too.

There are more places where there is oil, but it is blocked by the enviromentalists who want to protect the birds and animals, and yet do not realize the one can get oil and gas without disturbing the flora and fauna. I guess they do want us (and I include Canadians) to pay high oil prices. We have oil fields in Alberta and yet I find that the cheapest oil prices were in Ontario.
