They are necessary, but under the current system they are very ineffective. I have been involved with them on several occasions regarding suspected child abuse. I especially think of a case that involved 3 little boys in our school system. I had the oldest who was 6 in my room, and the two 5-year-olds (step brothers) were in the other Kindergarten. We reported and reported to social services that these little ones were coming to school with visible signs of abuse. The one in my room told me about not having anything to eat at home. One day when he came in he had a huge abrasion on his upper arm. He cried and said that it was his fault -- that he'd made his mama so mad that he'd forced her to hurt him. It took months and months of calling social services before the social worker stopped by their home one day to find out why the youngest boy hadn't been in school. She found him with bruises all over his body. After that 2 boys went to live with their father and the step brother with his grandparents, and they all left the district. It was a small town, though. Through the grapevine we heard that 3 months later when school was out all the children were placed back in the home with their mother. We actually cried when we heard!

I do agree that under the current system they are ineffective. there was a case near our town where DCF had been involved for a year and had never done anything other then scheduled home checks, well one day a neighbor called police and said "I havent seen any children in days" (they had 6). So the police and DCF went to find a 3 yr old locked in the basement with a broken arm and only a cup to pee in, the older kids said hed been there like a week, the parents had never taken him to the hospital and couldnt stand to hear him cry!!!!!! Both parents were arrested, but within 2 weeks got their kids back!!!! On the other hand.....I do know of some cases where they have REALLY helped and possibly even saved the childs life, and one that I knwo of especially has a much better life and the kid even says that they r so happy dcf got involved

There is sin everywhere. It does sadden me that the DCF has bad workers and that the children are left in unsafe homes and taken from safe ones. I don't know if they just don't care, if their caseload is to big but, I know something has to be done about it. God Bless

I think thats a good point, is there caseload too big (we always hear about that) or do they just not care? Something should be done, because as mentioned before the system the way it is now, just doesnt work...........
