how school has changed in the last decade or two

I think a lot about school, as my son will be starting soon, and realize how different things are since I graduated. My old high school installed security guards the year after I graduated, and we used to be able to smoke on the front patio as long as school wasn't in session. But our bathrooms were kept locked during class, you needed a key, or there was one with a teacher posted outside the door for inbetween classes. I know a lot of schools now have metal detectors, and uniforms. What other ways have you noticed schools changing in the last few years?

Well things have certainly changed when I returned to work in a primary school from when I was in primary school myself. Security is stepped up, we are not as bad as America with detectors etc but we are getting close especially in some dodgy inner city areas. Teachers are NOT allowed to touch children even to hug them when they are upset. Computers are in every school now and most have IT suites. They certainly are more geared around the positive development of a child. Sadly the only thing that hasn't changed is the amount of men working with children as I found out to my cost

I never really thought about the hugging issue. I don't know how much of an issue that is here. My son will be starting school next year, I should look into that. I never really noticed much of a ifference between men and woman in the school systems. My teachers in elementary school were mostly woman, but as I hit middle and high school it seemed to be about even. My father was a high school math teacher for over 30 years, so then again, maybe it seems normal because I was raised with it.
